Houston Zoo Houston Zoo News 2022

A female Goeldi’s Monkey named “Betty” that was born at the zoo last month, is currently being hand-raised by staff after swift attempts to reintroduce the baby to her mom “Kylie” were deemed to be unsuccessful. In doing so, the animal care specialists also noted that the infant was found to be significantly smaller in size than the average weight for a newborn of her species.

Does Houston Zoo have red kangaroos? Taman Safari acquired a pair and an joey from Houston, but they didn't specify which facility. If yes, does Houston Zoo received an animal in exchange?

Houston Zoo does not have any Red Kangaroos too my knowledge, but the nearby Houston Interactive Aquarium does, which is likely where they came from.

‘A numbers game’: How 3 Texas zoos have teamed up to help the endangered Houston toad

For the last several years, the Houston, Fort Worth and Dallas zoos have teamed up to release Houston toad eggs in Bastrop County in an effort to save the endangered species, which is native to the Lone Star State.

The species was first listed as endangered in 1970. It still holds that status largely due to continued habitat destruction — most devastatingly, the 2011 Bastrop County Complex Fires.

The Houston Zoo started its egg release conservation project in 2007. The Fort Worth Zoo began releasing eggs in 2014, followed by the Dallas Zoo in 2020.
