Still chugging along with this project, with the 1993 editions to follow imminently, but I thought I would draw the attention of anyone still reading this thread to the following two articles:

British Zoo Guide-Books (John Tuson) - extended eight-page opinion piece discussing the importance of zoo guidebooks, with particular reference to those published by British zoological collections; subjects covered include a general description of the wide range of content and quality found within the genre, detailed reviews of the most recent guidebooks published by Edinburgh Zoo and Chester Zoo at the time of writing, and thoughts on what the ideal zoo guidebook would look like in the opinion of the author.

Personal Impressions Of Some Midwestern Zoos (John Tuson) - opinion piece providing a short review of the following zoological collections, subsequent to a recent trip to the USA by the author; Kansas City Zoo in Missouri, Omaha Zoo in Nebraska, Saint Louis Zoo in Missouri, and Topeka Zoo in Kansas.

Not actually the first articles we've covered in this thread which were submitted by a past or present Zoochatter, but certainly the first submitted by a member whose name is public record :) these are, of course, the first of many articles submitted by @sooty mangabey to the International Zoo News!

The zoological collections in question are in Bolivia, Chile and Argentina, unfortunately - I can still scan it in if you are interested, though.

I have now scanned the three articles in question; however, they are long enough that the resulting file sizes are too large to attach to this post. As such, if you sent me a private message with a contact email address I shall send the files to you directly :)

Thank you! It might be a bit before I can reach out because my account is too new so I don't have private message privileges yet :/

A Successful Hornbill Nestbox (Maarten de Ruiter) - a short item submitted by a keeper at Zoo Gettorf in Germany - and latterly our very own @vogelcommando - discussing the construction of a breeding nestbox for Wreathed Hornbill, accompanied by a diagram showing the dimensions and design of the nestbox in question.

It is, I think, worth specifically highlighting this article located within the most recent batch of IZN issued indexed - as noted, it represents the first submission I have reached from @vogelcommando , although I believe at least one earlier submission took place within a 1980s edition I lack!

.
Would you be able to show this part - "a 5-year development plan for Orana Park Wildlife Trust, New Zealand".

Back then (well, a bit later in the early 80s) Orana had a huge signboard up showing a map of their development plan which included a big North American section with (from memory) bison, wolves, otters, beavers, and I think moose. I always wish I had been able to take a photo of that, but I didn't have a camera then and when I did get a camera it was a little dodgy thing because real cameras were super expensive. I don't expect the magazine will show any images of plans but it would be interesting to see what it says.

1977: VOLUME 24

Eight issues, of which I currently own two.

Volume 24 Issue 3 - Edition 143 - April/May 1977 - physical copy

A New Zoo Park in Christchurch (Paul Garland) - a short item submitted by the director of the collection discussing the recent opening of Orana Park Wildlife Reserve in September 1976, detailing the various planned stages of future development.
And this one also if it's not too much bother, thanks.

Will get onto that :)

As a general thread update, after having a little break, I've started adding new entries for a batch of 1960s and 1970s editions which recently came into my possession - after which point I will pick things back up with the 1995 writeups :)

I have now added information relating to:

Two editions published in 1965 within this post.
One edition published in 1966 within this post.
Two editions published in 1968 within this post.
One edition published in 1972 within this post.
Two editions published in 1973 within this post.

I will update the placeholder post for 1995 located upthread next - hopefully within the next day or so - and then continue heading through each year in order :)

hello, I hope this is okay to post.
first of all, I really appreciate this work considering my current situation.

I'm looking for an article in an issue of IZN and have no luck anywhere else. The citation I have is:
Yajima, M (1996) : The development of insectariums and their future. Int Zoo News 43, 484-491.
that does make it seem like it came from a collected volume of all the issues from 1996, so it might be a big ask to request either photos or a scan. But I'm at the end of my rope in my quest.

thank you again! what a shame this seems like archival issues of IZN are so difficult to access when it's such an interesting case.

Yes, I've got the relevant issue - Voume 43 Issue 7 :D

I have gotten rather behind on updating this thread, due to the fact I have been prioritising the cataloguing of the Bartlett Society archive of zoo-historical material over the course of the past year, but the following list is more-or-less accurate with regards to which issues I own or have access to, and can therefore provide articles from on request:

It's always worth asking even if a required article is located in a volume that isn't cited above, however, as I *have* obtained more issues since writing the above.

I will get the article you desire scanned and work out a way to send it to you shortly :)

Hi Dave! Incredible that you're doing this, given how hard it is to find archives of International Zoo news. I'm currently working on a review, and was wondering if you had a physical copy of the 1999, Volume 46/Issue 5 magazine? I'm specifically looking for an article about zebra sharks at the Henry Doorly Zoo if there's a way you could scan that in for me.

Thanks!

I do indeed have a copy of that one :) I will root out the issue in question and get the article scanned for you.

Hi Dave,
Do you know if there has ever been an article about zebra and/or Jentink duikers in IZN? (Or duikers in captivity in general.) And if so, which issue was it?

I'd be very much surprised if there wasn't an article or news item on the subject at some point or other!

However, I don't have the "off-the-top-of-my-head" knowledge of the IZN back catalogue to immediately think of a particular edition :p:D I'll have a look through my collection to see what I can find.
