Props to the vets for keeping the viruses down.

Sounds like a great plan. I am happy to see the land owner sold to the zoo at such a low price given the lands value and donated the other tract to them.

Now they can likely move parking farther out from the zoo and use the current 20 acres of parking for exhibits :)

The seller paid $3 more all five of the parcels, donated 12 acres to the zoo, and made the zoo pay $3 million for its second parcel of 16 acres. He's getting the rest of the land free and clear! I'm not sure how fair it is to gouge a not-for-profit institution. I know this is a proportionally huge increase for the zoo, but considering how landlocked it is, I wish the zoo could have bought all five parcels for $3, sold one for $3 million and been free and clear with with what looks like about 60 additional acres. This room for expansion will never be available again.

Where on the Zoo's map will this take place? I'm lost given the fact that I've heard it'd take over the old painted dog exhibit, but that means demolishing the hoofstock holding area.

Idk I had the same concern. The hoofstock exhibit is staying so they’ll have to build a new holding area. I do believe it will be in the area of the painted dogs though.

Edit: The zoo confirmed it will on the site of the former wild dog exhibit on facebook and will connect to the existing yard with a walking trail.

Right now the Indianapolis Zoo is building a new yard for there African Elephants in Plains. This new part of the Elephant exhibit will be called Tembo Camp, Tembo meaning elephant in Swahili. It is set to in the summer of 2020 and it will give the elephants more room to roam and you will be able to pet the elephants.

I was reading in the Indianapolis Zoo Fall/Winter Magazine and I found some info that say that the zoo might be planning a master plan for the next few years. I don't know if it's true but, if it is I don't what new animals there going to house or what new exhibits there planning. If anybody knows any info on if the zoo is making a master plan please tell me. If you think the zoo should make a master plan what exhibits should they build or what animals should they house, let me hear your ideas. Thank you for reading!

Here is a link to the info on Tembo Camp.

Just a heads up, since I notice you are pretty new to this site, but this should be posted under the United States part of the forum. In that part, you will actually find a thread titled "Indianapolis Zoo News" where this topic has already come up and has generated some discussion. Again, just for future reference. Most major zoos already have a news thread on this forum.

Indianapolis' can be found here: Indianapolis Zoo News [Indianapolis Zoo]
