Indianapolis Zoo Indianapolis Zoo News

I have since confirmed that it is Mashaka who has moved to Santa Barbara. He's already on exhibit with their new female, so hopefully there will be cubs in their future.

Santa Barbara Zoo in California has announced the arrival of "Ralph", an African lion from Indianapolis Zoo. Does anyone know which of Nyack's sons - Enzi or Mashaka - moved to Santa Barbara?

A new exhibit called Family Nature Center will open very soon, in the same building as Butterfly Kaleidoscope. What animals it will contain is unknown, however the map lists Hellbenders.

New exhibit announced: Marvel at Powerful Reptile Predators - Indianapolis Zoo

"Revered for their unmatched strength, feared for their ferocity and respected for their tenacity, alligators and crocodiles are among the most impressive predators on the planet!

Beginning Memorial Day weekend 2021, guests can see these remarkable oversized reptiles up close when the Indianapolis Zoo opens its new exhibit, Alligators & Crocodiles: The Fight to Survive.

Construction will be under way soon for the new exhibit, to be located on the west side of the Zoo near the entrance to Plains. There, visitors can meet two species, the American alligator and the Orinoco crocodile, that are on vastly different ends of the conservation spectrum."

This is exciting! When do you plan to go back to Indy?

This hasn’t been mentioned as news in this thread, though @MidwestFan recorded his name in a list of the zoo’s dolphins a few posts back:

Dolphin calf arrives:

Dolphin rescued in Cameron Parish on the mend at Indianapolis Zoo

A four-week-old dolphin found just to the east of Holly Beach back in May is now swimming with a new pod in Indianapolis.

“We have a pod here that could help Trooper grow and learn how to become a dolphin and he is doing very very well.”

It wasn’t an easy move for Trooper.

“He didn’t know exactly quite how to act as a dolphin because he hadn’t been with a dolphin since 4 weeks of age,” said Gallagher.

The 12 dolphins living at the Indianapolis took to Trooper.

The pod became his teachers and he’s healthy and, from all appearances, happy.
