Funny, I was about to post in the exhibitry themes/styles thread that I want to see more unnatural looking exhibits!
I love almost everything about the Orangutan Center. It has a commanding presence being visible from almost anywhere in the zoo. It’s architecture is unlike anything I’ve seen in any other institution. And I think it’s function over form style lends itself to unique experiences. I’ve never seen an orangutan, let alone any primate, swing across a gap as wide the entire day room. Not to mention the engineering alone would be worth the visit sans orangutans.
To see them do a spin off with chimps is very exciting! I don’t necessarily love the main climbing structure, but I do enjoy them going grandiose with the height. The overhead pathways should create some unique experiences and push the envelope when it comes to chimp exhibits. I’m curious to see the areas these paths connect to, as the outdoor portions of the Orangutan Center do leave a lot to be desired.
