Keeping invasive introduced species in Australian zoos

Juanito was then transferred to Adelaide Zoo in 2018, but as of November 2024, Adelaide only had a female (Ninka) suggested Juanito has since died or transferred out (possibly back to Altina).

He was born 2014, so it’s not difficult to imagine he’s passed on as the Adelaide pair (half-siblings) appeared to get on well and Ninka is past prime breeding age.
Juanito's mother and Ninka's father were siblings so we can assume Adelaide's pair were never an intended breeding pair - more a non breeding pair with both closely aged wolves living together as companions for one another.

As far as I can remember, Adelaide have held just Ninka for a while now (perhaps the last few years at least). It's possible Juanito may have been transferred back to Altina as he was/is still on the young side.

Yes, Adelaide are a non-breeding facility due to space; plus the two wolves were half-siblings. Juanito disappeared from Adelaide’s website mid-2023; and was last mentioned on socials in December 2022, which gives an approximate timeline of his death or transfer out.

Adelaide are now planning to receive a young male to pair with Ninka for companionship purposes. One of these four males is the likely candidate imo:

1.0 Muchacho - born circa August 2024 at Altina

3.0 Nico, Toco and Rocco - born circa July 2024 at Wildlife HQ
