Oooooooh that few over my headWell maybe Im jumping to the wrong conclusions(or very high expectations)
Just thought it's odd why they would put a fact about how long a tiger is pregnant for......
I always get a little bit off color with breeding success in one of a most numerous domesticated cattle species as yak. It always pains me to note that it does nothing for recovery of wild yak in situ (whereas none are now represented in captivity anyway).0:0:1 Yak has been born.
A first for the collection, fantastic news
I'm guessing the pride that are moving will be Scooter's? Whichever pride is going is great news for Knowsley.
Facebook post shows a pair of pups but still no confirmation on exact number so could just be the pair. Fantastic news either way
Sad to see the lions go, I always loved seeing the two prides when I lived in the area. They had a great amount of space too with all three of those enclosures.
Yes, it is bad bad ..., this wolf subspecies only has a global population of 1,000 - 1,500 at best. Guestimates up and above 2,500 should be dismissed as the population is mainly confined to NW Spain and a huge hinterland is empty and trigger happy hunting community and ineffective predator management measures allowing for (il-)legal killing of wolves wandering out of these areas east or south. Rumours that wolves exist further south in Andalucia/Sierra Morena are a figment of peoples' imagination (they have been extinct for years and only because some sources keep copying old records in with no recent evidence whatsoever). Within the EEP/EAZA the Iberian wolf receives tacit if non-active support from the wider community, most efforts are geared towards the Central European/Finno-Russo-Scandinavian wolf ssp.. Even the Abruzzo wolf is not receiving the attention from the conservation breeding community it would undoubtedly deserve. Hence, the breeding at Knowsley is something to be very happy about!Several comments under that post of people who have never seen the wolves on their visits .Spanish wolf do seem largely invisible in collections- Blackpool is a noticeable exception though.
