La Vallee des Singes La Vallee des Singes news

Arrival of a new male roloway monkey last july. He will be paired with the resident female. Don't know what arrived to the previous one ?!

And recent births :
- a kikuyu guereza (the seventh one in two years),
- two peruvian squirrel monkeys at the beginning of august (more are expected),
- two golden-handed tamarins,
- a pygmy marmoset,
- golden-headed lion tamarin twins,
- a gelada baboon.

Was yesterday in la Vallée. Not a lot to say but :
- some Rhenen's bonobos are still there. Transfer will arrive next wednesday.
- the red-faced black spider monkeys group is split into two (3/4) due to relationship problems between the breeding male and the young ones. A keeper told me there will be a male exchange with French Guiana (I suppose from Guiana Zoo) soon.
- the male western common chimpanzees don't arrive to breed with the females. Problem come from their origin (comming from a lab where they didn't learn how to breed). A shame as their blood is important for the EEP. The park is thinking about bringing a proven male to show us how it works and maybe allowed them to breed.
- no baby in the barbary macaques group. The new breeding male is still young (5 years old) and need to take its place in front of the old males.
- the crowned lemur pair is now not breeding as there is a lack of place to place the babies.
- I was lucky to see some of the cited babies in my previous post but not the guereza, pygmy marmoset and squirrel monkeys.
- saw no work anywhere in the park so it seems that no new exhibit will arrive in the next future. Too bad as this park is brillant but need some new species.
