Leipzig gorilla group.

I heard Leipzig may be wanting to replace gorilla Silverback 'Gorgo' in order to allow them to keep his maturing daughters within the group. Any information?

Which lucky silverback will replace Gorgo in the near future?

And which destiny will Gorgo find?

The grevy zebra born to "Macho" and "Laila" is a female, a second female was born to "Macho" and "Nora" three days later.

Expected births during the next months: Indian sloth bears (Klaus x Ludmilla), Baringo giraffe (Max x Gusti), Giant otters (Jao x Madija), Eastern black rhinoceros (N'dugu x Sarafine), Indian elephant (Naing Thein x Hoa)

Yesterday the two millionth visitor entered the zoo - the first time in history of Zoo Leipzig.

In 2012 the keeping of bears at the 83 years old "Bear Castle" will finally end - the last three old spectacled bears (2,1 - 29/21/17) are going to leave the zoo or spend their remaining years behind the scenes. The zoo is going to renovate the building during the next years. The future utilisation is still undetermined.

On monday (19.12.) in the morning Giant otter female "Madija" (born at Dortmund Zoo in 2005, arrival at Leipzig March 2009) gave birth to 5 cubs in Gondwanaland. Sire ist "Jao" (born at Hamburg in 2008, arrival at Leipzig March 2010). That is the first Giant otter breeding in the history of Leipzig Zoo.

A Lion-tailed macaque was born last week, bringing the number of animals at the zoo up to 4,5,1.
