On August 25th, it was announced that the zoo transferred a (0.1) red panda named Mei Lun to the Utica Zoo in New York.

On September 13th, the zoo announced that a (0.0.1) African penguin hatched on July 29th.

Black rhino.
Utenzi was always his name, Faru was added at cincy as a public name. To my knowledge this was due to guests calling them names of the rhinos in the past getting them to come up to the barriers

As is the case with all popular zoo animals.
Most zoos usually combat this with the use of 'barn/house names' - which the keepers use. The public would only be aware of the public/media names and so calling out to the animals wouldn't work.
On November 15th, it was reported that a bur oak tree inside the white-cheeked gibbon exhibit is nearing the end of its life and will be removed sometime in 2023. The bur oak is around 250-300 years old, which would predate not only the founding of the facility it's located in, but the founding of the country it's in.

I got to say, the new lion exhibit is a massive success if breeding is going especially well for the pride.
More cubs, means more cuteness and a chance for the lions to flourish.
Want to second this report based on my visit yesterday. The path by the black bears and beavers was open but no animals, while the otter outdoor was now fenced off. The otters, beavers, and wolves were also off-display though. If anyone was curious, there is a treehouse in the indoor exhibit now for child guests.
The polar bear exhibit is also fenced off at every viewing area. No idea why.
The armadillo at Small Mammal-Reptile House is off-exhibit and was replaced by a handwritten sign and what seemed like an empty exhibit. I would have been upset but I was distracted by the slow loris being active and seeing it work with a keeper next door!
This was my first time visiting Pepper Family Wildlife Center and photos don't do it justice, even now having been there I feel it looks awkward in photos, but being there... wow! The exhibit was breathtaking and impressive, commanding the attention of dozens of guests as the pride of lions moved to different parts of the habiat and the older cub continued to try to play with his parents, tackling them... very cute! The new cub knows he is a star of the show and lots of guests were entranced on a winter morning watching him play with his family -- and it is nice to see a pride of lions at once, not just a pair, as the interactions between individuals help so much. I've never felt so engaged by lions in a zoo before and making such an old hat animal more interesting is a sign of outstanding exhibit quality in my book. I especially love being able to view the exhibit from so many different angles - the lion loop is incredible. The new interior feels like a whole different building.
As to the exterior, the red panda was not there multiple times I checked, or the lynx, but both exhibits looked good for the species. The snow leopard was active though!
I thought I had more news to share, but unfortunately, I missed out on previous reports so it is not news to anyone that Diana monkey and Plains zebra live in African Journey now, there are now grey and harbor seals living together in the seal pool, and while I knew that areas of Small Mammal-Reptile House had previously been enclosed during a construction period in the gallery, I hadn't known the change was permanent. The rainforest atrium feels almost unrecognizable now, though it certainly did not help it was empty yesterday. I also hadn't known the zoo's last fennec fox died, joining the sand cat in small carnivore phase-outs.
The zoos 24 year old female giraffe, Etana, passed away overnight. This leaves the zoo with just two giraffes.
She thankfully lived a good life, almost the complete captive giraffe lifespan. That leaves the other younger ones left in Habit Africa.
