Longleat Safari & Adventure Park lions

Comet was moved to Newquay where her Name was changed to Connie when she was put in with her father Ronnie.
Newquay has had a long line of Longleat Lions.
In about 2000 or so Major and his mate Lizzie where moved from Longleat as Major and Ronnie were fighting in Pride A,Then when Major died in about 2003 or so Ronnie moved in to live with Lizzie as his son Charlie took over his pride. And then when Lizzie died in about 2005/6 Comet then moved to join her father Ronnie and her name was Connie.
Then when Ronnie died Kabir from Longleats Pride B arrived to live out his retirement at Newquay With Connie but was sadly put down within the first few months as her broke his leg.Now Connie is all on her own.
Sorry about that probably very confusing Lion history ;)

Thanks for that it does make sense. I know Connie was there when I last visited Newquey in August 2005 so it would of been Ronnie there with her? Kabir was sent on when Ronnie died wasn't he. Although he died not long after.

yes he died shortly after from what was described as an un-fixable broken leg. he originally came from port lympne after having sired many offspring there.

Thanks Striped! How could i have forgotten about Kabir :D
He was an amazing looking animals and such a shame he was put down with a broken leg in the end.
Hope that makes some sense now i have added Kabir to it.

I think I remember reading that Kabir originated in the US. He was then sent on to Port lyme before moving to Longleat and then had a short lived retirement at Newquey. (Might not be correct though)

does anyone know when the 3 tigers were born?

If you mean the 3 Amur Tigers they were born at Mulhouse Zoo in Eastern France.

Or do you mean the 3 elderley bengals that they had before the current 3?

The 3 amur tigers were just over a year old when they were moved to Longleat in late 2006. So I would guess they were born in late 2005. Although I don't have an exact birthdate for them. They are 3 sisters from the same litter.

does anyone know anything about the lions in pride a. like who there mothers are, date of birth, where they were born,if they had any cubs, the names of the cubs?

it would be great

Pride A hasnt bred for quite some time now.
The last breeding males where Ronnie and Major. When i went in 2002/3 it was just Charlie and no cubs have been born since.

- As Hemsley said:

Pride A (non breeding)

Charlie - male
Naomi
Acia
Nola
Sattellite
Sky
One other female

Most of these animals where born at the park and all are 8+ years old.Longleat have foccused their efforts during the last 5 years or so with Pride B with Kabir moving in and plenty of breeding taken place.
I am quite sure that Charlie is related to quite a few members of his bred and that is why the reason they havent bred from him.
Am i right in saying Kumali was Amy's last cub? Im pretty sure he was born around 2003/4 And im pretty sure was the last Longleat lion to be fathered by Mafue.
Zazzi's two cubs where born at Longleat and their father was either her father Mafue (could be likely) or a very young Kumali who was about 2 years old or abit younger which sways me to the Mafue option. But as they where all kept as a pride it was all fine when Kumali and Zazzi and her two cubs moved to Flamingo Land.I think cubs may have born at Flamingo Land within the last four years that theyve been there - The enclosure there can hold about 20-30 individuals so theres no probs there!

Hope this helps!

Kumali (m) is the son of Amy and Mafue he was born at Longleat in 2002/2003 and was moved to Flamingo Land in Early 2005 along with Zazzy and her 2 female cubs although they WERE NOT his cubs. Amy dissapeard about the same time as Mafue and rest of the older lionesses. It was said on the Animal Park that they were being alowed to retire but it was never said what happend to them. Kumali had fathered sevreal litters since his move although I don't think they were all with Zazzy. I think they may be half siblings if Mafue was Zazzy's father.

Thanks for confirming that Stripes i was pretty sure Mafue was the father of those cubs.I've also been wondering about the retirement for Mafues group i know they have a seperate holiding could they of lived there for their last few years?
Have any more lionesses been brought to Flamingo Land then?
Regards

I would assume that they have bought more girls into Flamingo Land but I can't confirm this. They had a space issue about 2 years ago and resorted to spaying a lioness.

As for Mafue and his females they were either sent onto another collection or put down. Animal Park mentioned then almost every episode then allmost over night they were gone. I would like to think that they are enjoying a happy retirement somewhere but I fear that this is not the case.:(

I am hoping to visit Flamingo Land during the summer so i will get more info about the individuals there and hopefully some good pics :),
I agree with you about Mafue and the others. Its a real shame but they probably where put down.Mafue was such a magnificant animal though and his descendents are now all over the country :) - Flamingo Land,Blackpool and Longleat and in a few years more to come.

Rikizi -That would be fanstastic if you could I was hoping to go myself this summer but plans have fallen through and we are no longer going.

Forget to mention that Charlie has never bred as he has had the snip. I think he is related to most of the females in pride A.

As far as i know Longleat sent no more females to Flamingo Land other than the ones that went when Flamingo Land opened the new Lion enclosure.

Your right they didn't send any more female's to Flamingo Land so any additional female's must have come from other collections.
