Little Ponderosa Zoo and Rescue Little Ponderosa Zoo and Rescue News

Just leave it off please. Most of us are not interested in domestics news.

I'm sorry but I am not going to do that. I see reporting information about domestics about as equal to reporting information about exotics. However, as I said before I will make sure I have actual news about the facility/news about animals that would be classified as exotic while grouping with the domestic.

Given that you have repeatedly gotten snippy and rude with many of us both publicly and privately in response to civil criticism, you tend to set yourself up for pointed criticism. In this case, quite a number of members have told you numerous times to leave off the domestics, but it keeps circling back in anyways. Continuing to double back on things you've said you'd do will draw criticism.

Given that I have been trying to take your criticism to heart and at least improve most of what you and others have said, you are not being fair to me. If you were to have stated that maybe you should have waited until exotic news arrived before posting yesterday, I would have agreed with you.

We're not talking about just one or two members not being interested. Numerous long time members have asked for news about domestics to be left off- they clutter up news threads with information most members of the site don't care about. It's also the sheer quantity of domestics-related content. I wouldn't care to occasionally see domestics-related news come up, especially in regards to new species to a zoo, but it gets frustrating to see every single death or birth of a goat being reported on here by only a handful of members.

The point remains that this is a discussion forum, not a news forum, so news posts should be those with a potential of starting discussion, and posts about the births and deaths of goats are not in the interest of starting a discussion.

I'm surprised you didn't see the irony in saying that domestic news is not in the interest of starting a discussion, while having a discussion criticizing me over posting domestic news. ;)

I can respect your opinion though and tell you that I will tone down on mentioning domestic news, without completely getting rid of it. What frustrates me, and not talking about you specifically, is that I am probably always going to get criticism for posting domestic news because I am not going to back down from my position that I think both domestic and exotic news is newsworthy and discussion worthy, and for some reason, you guys (Great Argus, Neil Chace, IndianRhino, etc) can't understand that I guess.

Then I expect you will continue to see complaints and requests to remove it, as you observe.

Yet at the same time you keep circling back to it - you dropped off on it for awhile then it's back to posting it. Also you state I'm being unfair then say had I conceded to your opinion you would have agreed with me? That's not how this works.

I'm surprised you didn't see the irony in saying that domestic news is not in the interest of starting a discussion, while having a discussion criticizing me over posting domestic news. ;)

Of course, this is only a discussion because you continue to post it despite others asking you not to. It's not discussion about the news items, it's asking once again to please stop posting it.

It is news - however it is news that is much less interesting overall and is very common. Most of us have nothing against domestics, but we're not interested in sorting through news about domestics on a zoo forum. That's not what we're here for. We don't care that x zoo had more pygmy goats born; we're looking to hear about okapi births and lion transfers. The amount of news that goes on even in small facilities on a weekly basis is often quite large - some is relevant to share in a forum and some really is not.

If your simply reporting this news just to get more posts, I don't think that's the way to go.

Otherwise I don't see why someone should waste their time finding every single piece of news possible - even news extending back to last year as i've seen in other threads. The news obviously hasn't been posted for a reason. It's not relevant or of interest to most of us members.

You've brought this point up before, and what you've been told is that this is in fact NOT what we are asking. Waiting to post news until you have "enough" of it just clutters up a thread with information that is not only uninteresting and irrelevant, but also outdated as well. What's worse than seeing constant posts about baby goats born last week is seeing posts about baby goats born last year. So no, "waiting" until you have enough information is not the answer.

Perhaps as a compromise, since you seem intent on still posting about domestics, using the "spoiler" function to keep clutter out of threads, and so others can read through a thread without seeing the information on domestics, would be an acceptable solution. I know personally I would take that as a positive change, as then those interested can open the spoiler and see the news while those of us who aren't interested can read right by it.

You know what, that seems like a fine compromise.

Given how poor their current facility was based on my recent visit, it would be much better for them to focus the money and effort into improving that one first before they branch off into new places.....

Btw since you did visit this facility I might as well ask, did you see the Gunnison's prairie dog during your visit? According to USDA they hold the species, and from what I've seen on Facebook posts they don't look like black-tailed.

I did not see any prairie dogs or signs for them when I visited (around Feb-March time).
