Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park 2020

Sorry to hear this. Yes its a handy tool. Keeps up us to check on current and historical stock records. Most studbook keepers live on it!

Thanks for your kind words @Bubalus I wish I had better health and didn’t spend as much time in hospital. My motility problems are also a hinderende. If I was perfectly healthy both physically and mentally I would definitely be a Zookeeper or Vet. I’m glad I can talk and have the ability to use the internet. In fact my mind is perfectly sound apart from mental health problems and mild learning difficulties.

Does Ian Turner still work there or is he retired and just turns up when they are filming? he seems to stay mainly in the background now.

Think his current title is 'Media Coordinator'. He's basically in-charge of making sure all the animals and people are safe during filming. He also regularly creates posts for Longleat's social media. For some reason, whenever I'm there I always seem to see Ian doing somthing - he was filming the new binturong on my most recent visit and a visit before that I saw him on patrol in the lion enclosure. Always want to go and say hi but always get a bit nervous :D

So after quite an interesting week of Animal Park, part of todays episode regarding the reindeer being trained to fly is just too far fetched. Appreciate its a family show but for gods sake what a waste of a programme.

And, of course, there’s people out there that’ll believe it!

I have enjoyed Animal Park since it’s return, but it’s beginning to get a bit repetitive...and twee! Certain pieces have been covered very well (Nico’s death and Kesho’s behavioural problems for example) but others are just pointless or done to death-how many more stories about Ben Fogle and a cockatoo do we need? I get it: Bird hates Ben. End of and move on.

Well said @Panthera1981. Don't get me wrong there have been interesting parts over the summer but this week is a let down sadly.

On the plus side during the summer special I did discover that giraffes Becky & Dian both died and when. Saves me doing anymore pointless posts on here about them haha.

I agree with others on here that some stories have been a little boring and stupid notably the reindeer flying today, however I did think it was good to see them charging around the field - I'd much rather they focused on that. Why does Animal Park film so much at the 'Family Farmyard' - surely even the general public (not just us on here) are much more interested in seeing the Hyena, Wombat, Gorilla, Colobus, Rhino etc that weren't featured this week. I did enjoy some of the stories though, the anteater, the new arrivals at the park (including the Binturong escaping), the eland and I also liked that the wildebeest got some focus this week as they aren't normally included.

I’m still aggrieved by the piece they did on Lord Bath during the summer series-hardly anything at all! Surely the man and his associations with the estate were more worthy of a more thorough segment (maybe a whole episode) than the apparent cut-and-paste job it seemed he got given?

The hyena have been hardly mentioned at all which I think is sad considering they're not well represented in collections country wide. However I doubt the Animal Park team will take any notice of our views
Truly that is a shame, I find their press releases - by all accounts - rather mundane and uninspiring and not just for us zoo fans, but general public wise too.

Does anyone know how many hyena are held here currently? (and any other UK sites too)

T I A

2 males I believe

Agreed, they now have 2 Dik Dik but you wouldn't know that unless you watched animal park and even then it was only brief... Also, the warthog they got last year - I couldn't tell you whether they are still present or not.

The same applies (applied?) to the moose...are they even still there?

For a pretty well-known collection, which has a significant, well connected media presence that many collections would kill for, Longleat’s updates are pretty crummy!

Are there many moose left in Britain? Now Longleat have gone out of them, that leaves Knowsley and Scottish deer park(unless they're no longer holders?) Any other holders?
