All three were imported from South Africa in September 2003.

Why has nobody bothered to rectify the situation longterm, now it is too late the female wildcaught rhino have entered post reproductive age at over 20. It is not like there are no good bulls available in UK or Europe.

I hope that Ebun will breed in the near future as well, but I think that starts with moving Nanju to another zoo. It’s annoying that the situation could’ve been easily resolved but I think they were too optimistic in this case, and now it’s unlikely that they’ll breed naturaly, unless they resort to artificial insemination e.c.t
 
Does anyone know if Evindi is still fighting for the role of dominant Silverback from his elder brother Kesho? On Animal Park last year it was said that if the fighting continues,Evindi or Kesho will have to be moved to pastures new
 
Longleat has recently submitted a planning application to expand Koala Creek. The new area will take the site of the former Monkey Temple. The first major phase of the development is a new nocturnal house with a focus on Australian mammals. Current species (more to be added) on the list include:

Feather Tailed Glider
Bilby
Echidna
Quolls (species not mentioned)
Spinnifex Hopping Mice
Possums

A new Wombat enclosure will also be built within the nocturnal house. They are on the waiting list to import more Wombat's at a later date. They are intending (subject to planning and any delays importing the animals) to have the new Nocturnal house ready by Easter 2023

The second phase of the development is a set of three separate enclosures on the site of the current children's play area adjacent to Animal Adventure and surrounding area. These will be for Dingo, Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo (mixed with Pademelon) and Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby. This second phase should be open by Summer 2024

All the plans and drawings etc are available to view on Bath Council's website.

Wow, this sounds great! I was looking online to find the application but couldn't find it anywhere. If anybody has the link that'd be great.

However, when looking for the application I came across plans for the African Village area:
'Longleat has won a planning bid to build new housing for its giraffe and zebra – including toilets and a public viewing area. The application includes permission to demolish a building currently housing tortoises, the removal of a baobab tree, bridge and walkway over the retail outlet and the creation of a new retail space across from the existing shop.'
 
Oh wow! If they manage to pull this off, will they have the most "comprehensive" representation of Australasian mammals outside of their native range? (in one zoo).
