Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park 2021

@Jedd Cullinan From what I was told from my friends visit they have 4 female Koalas, Two passed away due to kidney problems. Also they want another Wombat to form a pair.

They had 4 females, but now have 2 females as two passed. They have 2 males one that came from Australia originally, and another that came from Japan.

They have 1 female wombat as the male died.

I knew they started with 2.4. and lost a male, but not much after that.

Losing quite a lot of animals early on cannot be ad advertisement for good husbandry management, can it?

Marsupials seems rather notorious for early deaths. Paira Daiza who also have Koalas (and Devils) seem to have lost several Koalas already and two Devils that were aged 7 -which seems 'old' for them..

Its true can anyone say how old these animals were when they arrived overseas?. Would all these animals be in the prime?

The devils were poor choices given their ages, however given the ZAA/ARAZPA breeding program requires breeding spaces urgently ... that is fine.

However, both institutions losing so many koalas - even given the fact that koalas have been known to be susceptible to several deadly diseases resident in the wild populations that can lead to early death - is never a good thing. It pinpoints major issues with these new collections in dealing with koala husbandry despite years of knowledge gained by EEP/EAZA and species studbook keeper Duisburg Zoo. If am / was correct both institutions imported without prior consultation with the species coordinators (correct me if I am wrong). Would these deaths have been avoidable is a difficult one, but certainly the loss in a short time span of a good number of koalas at both Longleat and Pairi Daizi is surely a matter of some concern.

It was pointed out to me that the Southern Koala sub species travels less well than the smaller Northern sub species. I believe most Koalas that have been sent overseas are Northern.

I had a UK friend travel almost 5 hours to Longleat for her Koala encounter. She always wanted to see a Koala since childhood, She loved her time there with plans to return another time. She did see the only one Wombat and the Potoroos were well hidden, lol.
The Giant otters had been moved apparently and not on show!
The giant otters were in their usual home and on show today.

Just been to Facebook and I understand that Shrimp and Rudi the Giraffes has left for Folly Farm. "
We’re absolutely delighted to announce the arrival of Dr Shrimp and Rudi

Two male Rothschild giraffe have joined us from Longleat.
They are currently settling in to life at our Giraffe Heights enclosure with Rian and Taharqa.
Dr Shrimp and Rudi are half brothers and are both three years of age. Dr Shrimp is lighter in colour and has a slightly floppy left ear. They’re both noticeably smaller and lighter in colour than Rian and Taharqa."

0:1 emu chicken has been born. First to have been born here. She's been called Bueno

Do you, or does anyone else know which females they have now? I've been watching Animal Park recently which showed 3 female koalas - Maisie, Violet and I'm not sure of the third one's name to be honest. Any info would be welcome.
