Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park News 2011

I'm amazed by all these new attractions Longleat is investing in, its about time, I must say! Do we know where about the Cheetahs are going? I must plan a visit here either this year or next year, preferably when the new gorillas arrive. It is a very exciting time for the park.

For years it's annoyed me when people have referred to Longleat as 'Longleat Safari Park', when that's only one part of it (talking about generally, not on here). I see it's now called 'Longleat (big letters) Adventure and Safari Park. And the new branding on the old Pet's Corner as Jungle Kingdom seems to include the boat cruise.

Gawd I hope people just start calling it Longleat when referring to the park in general... but I'm not too hopeful!

And just a reminder for all those missing Animal Park that the new series of Roar filmed from Longleat starts airing on Monday from 8am. Might not be aimed at the wider audience but it's something eh? ;)

Thank you. I always find roar very well done and even though it has a few features that only kids would enjoy, in general it offers good information and covers a wide variety of species.

On a lighter note - three cheers for Bob and Brian!! :-)

Ad 1) Any idea on the who the calves for 2010 are?

Ad 2) Have they now sourced 2.0 white rhino?
Did they treat the cow with cysts?

ISIS lists Longleat has having 1:2 Rothschild Giraffe births during 2010. Imogen was the mother to the first (a male, Kaiser) but the mothers of the females have yet to be confirmed. Hopefully that will change now that the new program is being aired.

To my knowlage their are no new male rhino planned for the time being although that may change when one of the younger cows moves on (been stated earlier in the thread that she isn't staying for good)

Last year (late August) I was at Longleat and she was out with the Bull. For that reason I assume that she is now fine

On another note ISIS now lists Longleat as having 2:3 Rock Hyrax (Procavia capensis jayakari) interestingly these are the only ones listed that are outside the UAE. I assume that these will be in the new Jungle Kingdom?

Obviously been an import of this subspecies - Cotswold have recently acquired them as well - http://www.zoochat.com/197/arabian-rock-hyrax-203416/

Looking forward to hopefully seeing Cotswold's animals on Saturday.

They have had them for some time they're in the monkey jungle they don't have names except one named Ginger I believe they came from knowsley.

Thats what i was told be scimitarhorned1 who is familiar with that section.
Well that may be so but given scimitarhorned1 track record,I wouldn`t as Knowsley do not have that many to spare.Personnaly I would say they have come from Port Lympne as they do have the numbers to be able to move afew surplus males on!!

At 15 Pages and over 200 posts I think it's well and truly time to put the previous Longleat thread to bed (if mods could close it then that would be great).
To start the new one off with Monkey Jungle is re-opening this weekend after a two year break due to the herpes virus and just to get them into the spirit of things keepers today gave them a car of there own to destroy!!

Yes it will be good to see the Rhesus Monkeys drive through opening again, after their virus. Back to doing what they do best judging by those pictures! Hope to go there next weekend, see if my car survives Monkey Mayhem.
