Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park News 2011

Has anyone managed to get a picture of the wildebeest and have they been moved into the Big Game park yet?

I went at the end of March and they were in with the rhesus monkeys I think.

Hopefully the picture attached.

Wildebeest;

Is it just the three in the photo?

Are they males or a male/female mix, and did they come from Port Lympne?

Well they didn`t come from Knowsley so Port Lympne would be the logical guess as to where they came from,also i know last year when I visited they had a small all male herd that had separated itself from the main herd!!

Im pretty sure there was another one aswell but it wasnt with those three. So theres atleast four, possibly five. Maybe there were others that I didnt see. However when I read

"Ever seen an African wildebeest? There’s a whole herd making their Longleat debut in 2011!"

For some reason I expected to see more than four or five. As for the sex or where they came from I cant be of any help sorry.

That's advertising 'license' for you. There aren't enough in the UK for any park to be able to aquire a 'starter' group of more than half a dozen really.

Four animals went to Longleat from Port Lympne, though I do not know the sexes, Longleat are looking to build up a large herd eventually.

Nothing much happened during his time at Marwell though and then suddenly he left!

Several things happened at Marwell in fact whilst Jon was there , most of which were organisational procedures and veterinary advances. He did not have as much of a free hand to develop as he will probably have at longleat.

Surprisingly, already listed on ISIS as 4 males. Maybe females will follow, or come from somewhere else in the future.

You type in; ISIS Find Animals. Then click on the relevant species, e.g. Brindled Gnu and then scroll down the list to find the place e.g. Longleat, you are looking for. The holders themselves don't have a section each, its the animal species lists which give the number for each holder.

Wildebeest are an iconic African plains species, why on earth would they put them in the monkey jungle? Where are the blackbuck now?

THNX- Also Found out that they have a female Warthog

{Also take a sneek peek at our new warthog!}

Does this mean there might be breeding?

I wonder if they are moving one or two of the males then my guess is that if they do indeed breed,then it would be Genghis Khan as he is the most Dominant.

:D Is Akira The Hun Very Dominant?I thought HE was most Dominant.

Also,Have they found a mate for Jessie the Tapir?Also(Again!)Are the Cheetah`s hybrid or for breeding?Also,Are Kudu`s Cub`s getting on well ?( The tiger which died ).

What is the name of the name of new tiger and warthog?

Nope for your first post your questions are.
1)They have found a suitable companion but he has not arrived.
2)No idea about the Cheetah but i think they are most probarly Southern Cheetah the most common sub-species.
3)Kudu's cubs are probarly at Isle of Wight Zoo dont hold me to that.
The new Amur Tiger came from Dublin Zoo and is Turlough,unsure of the WartHog.
