Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park News 2011

Yup, and the Lorikeet Feeding too.

I might be going to Longleat on Friday if we think enough people will be watching the royal wedding for it to be not too busy (we're not really bothered! :p), so expect reviews and photos of the new stuff so far if we do.

Just thought I would mention, when I went a few days ago, not all of the monkeys were out, and may not be out for a couple of weeks. This because, asthey are free roaming, they need to make sure they get used to their home so they don't run off.

Where are the cheetahs coming from and what specie are they E.G Southern Chhetah,King Cheetah E.T.C.......

Have they introduced the male tiger to Soundari,Svettli and Shouri yet?

Monkey Temple species:

Emperor Tamarin
Geoffroy's Tamarin
Common Marmoset
Black-Tailed Marmoset
Goeldi's Monkey

These are from memory, there may be more. When I went, only the Common Marmosets were out.

I think people are getting confused between the new Monkey Temple and the now drive-by monkey reserve in the Safari Park. I can see how you can get the two muddled, as they are both being promoted as new attractions.

Another thing in which might confuse people are the strange Geographical mixes of species like the Rhesus macaques and Blue wildebeest.

Why did they put the wildebeest in with the macaques in the first place?

The Tigers

I copied and pasted this from Longleat Website News.

One of Longleat’s newest residents, a male tiger has been taking his first steps in his new home at the safari park - to gaze lovingly at his adoring female friend.

The hulking beast, called Turlough, has been recently introduced to Longleat Safari Park having come over from Dublin Zoo.

Having spent a 90 day period in isolation Turlough, a 15-year-old male is now sharing the tiger enclosure with the three existing females Soundari, Shouri and Svetli, all aged five.

Turlough initially proved to be a bit timid and apprehensive of his new environment and park mates for a few days having not wanted to venture outside.

He has, however, now plucked up the courage to come out and play and is quite content to share the enclosure with his three new tiger friends, particularly Soundari.

The two tigers spent a few tender moments staring affectionately into one another's eyes before rubbing noses.

The unusually loving moment was captured on camera at Longleat by photographer Richard Meston, 34.

Dad-of-three Richard, from Bournemouth, Dorset, said: "It was amazing to see and quite unusual.

"We were just having a family day out at Longleat and were in our car looking at the tigers.

"All of a sudden the male started gently padding around. He looked very playful and was behaving just like a big kitten.

"He started walking around the cars and pouncing on things - including one of the females.

"He got on her back before going face to face with her. It looked very affectionate - they touched noses and looked into each other's eyes.

"It was really lovely to see."

Does this mean there might be cubs on the way soon?:D:D:D

I apologise for this change of subject.

ISIS now states Longleat only have 3.0.0 Nyala instead of the 6 or 7 they had before. Does anyone know what has happened to them?

Dunno about that, but as jordan said the females turned out to be hybrids so they wouldn't be allowed to breed.

Just heard that a giant anteater baby was born to Bonito and Maroni last week! :)
