Loro Parque Loro Parque Tenerife

(Regarding the spain/africa debate, for ease of access for zoochatters, it would probably be better under Spain-I just made the mistake of making a tenerife thread under spain! After all, we want people to be able to find the thread! It could equally be put under either, as both can be justified, but seeing as Zoochat is generally done using countries, Spain makes sense.)

But regarding the park, I am going to Tenerife soon so if there's anything I should look out for let me know! It sounds like a really interesting park!

It's great, haven't been for a long time, but I remember my highlights were Planet Penguin (which was breathtaking, and dare I say it, the best exhibit I have ever seen - but that said, I haven't been to many zoos), seeing Gorillas for the first time, and I think purely due to my age, the Orca show :D

Will have to give it another visit next time I'm in Tenerife.

Do you mind me asking? I think you've said before but I've forgotten. :P (PM me if you want.)

I'm going to 2 days so will try to take some piccies for you all to see! :)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. We just created the LoroParque account at Zoochat forum.

Hope to see you in the park at some point! :)

First of all, welcome to the forums! Always a great addition when a zoo "itself" joins the zoochat community!

Here's three questions for you :)

- Is it ever possible to visit the rare parrot breeding centre behind the scenes? Are there guided tours possible, or is it always closed bare for personnel?

- Are there any other birds behind the scenes except for the astounding collection of parrot species (like birds of paradise, kagu, quetzal, any other rarely exhibited species?)

- Is there a recent stock list available? I can imagine you wouldn't want to disclose all the information because of theft-sensitivity, but one can always ask...

Thanks in advance :)

The members of Loro Parque Fundación can visit the breeding centre once a year. The anual membership cost 100€ but you can also enter Loro Parque for free and that pass is usually 60€ worth.

We have a big collection of 350 parrot species and subspecies. In our website there is a list of the most representative ones.

Went to Loro on my hols last week, shall be uploading any decent photos soon! The OrcaOcean is such a mini Seaworld!! They've even used the old music and crowd filming that was used (atleast in Orlando) before Believe. Very good!

Hola Loroparque Viva ESPANA!

Hola,
I hope somebody can answer the following question.
My local zoo is Paignton and i noticed on my pictures that i took whilst in Loroparque that the Gorilla enclosure floor outside is covered in What? It looks amazing is it astro turf?. My main reason for asking is the really terrible bark chippings they have on the floor inside at Paignton. It was put down to Help Pertinax the silverback's feet but it has made no difference to him. So I am on a campaign to see if they can get some better flooring, and when I saw what was on your Gorillas floor I thought what a great Idea.
Regards and welcome.:)

Just out of interest, what are the arrangements for this? Is it a particular open day (or days) that you have to attend on?

It would certainly be very interesting!

I visited Loro Parque back in 2008 I believe it was. I loved the park, I loved everything about it. The art, the vegetation, the enclosure etc.

I would love to visit again to see KATANDRA TREETOPS. :D Sadly, I was not as knowledgable back then, so really didnt take notice of the Parrot Collection. Will have to go back and see their fantastic collection. I also did the "Guided Tour" whilst there, and saw behind scenes in the Penguins, Gorillas, Orcas etc. The behind the scenes structures are amazing.

It really is a fantastic place.

EDIT: Aswell, are there any links or photos on Katandra Treetops?

Well done on a great website, l will have to visit some time soon.

Do all 7 of your Gorillas live together?

The treetops exhibit was smaller than I had expected, but it was great to be up in the trees with the birds-some were very close!

@Keeper: This link doesn't connect me to the facebook-site. Is it really complete or are you able to post another link for that information?
