Is the Cape vulture habitat open yet?

No. When I visited on Saturday, I asked a docent/volunteer if there was an update on when it might open. I was told that they were told that the exhibit is about 95% complete and, once it's completed, it will take the cape vultures 1-2 months to acclimate to the new exhibit. Cape vultures were still present in the behind-the-scenes exhibit behind the jaguar exhibit as of Saturday.

Construction continues on the Swan Lake exhibit across from the flamingo exhibit.

Repairs to the African primate roundhouses appear to have been stopped some time ago. I didn't ask anyone when they might actually resume let alone be completed.

Repairs to the Francois' Langur exhibit don't seem to have been started so the exhibit remains closed and the langurs were still off exhibit.

Treetops Terrace remains closed due to the structural issue. I didn't ask anyone when that might actually be repaired and when the Conservation Carousel would reopen.

This week I noticed that a number of species have recently been removed from the animal list on the zoo's website. All of the mammals except for the mangabey were located at the Winnick Family Animal Care Nursery Center in the Children's Zoo. Below is a list of the removed animals organized by category.

Mammals
  • southern tamandua
  • Prevost's squirrel
  • Linne's two-toed sloth
  • Cape porcupine
  • Vietnamese pot-bellied pig
  • red-capped mangabey
Birds
  • Indochinese green magpie
  • masked bobwhite quail
  • black vulture
Fish
  • polka-dot stingray
  • motoro stingray

The mammals part must be very recent, I was checking that part for the Rodents project I'm working on like 2 days ago and they were still there.

The nursery was blocked off when I was there 2 weeks ago.

My Best Bet, it would be around September around World Vulture Day for the Cape Vulture Habitat to open with the Trumpeter Swan Habitat opening later.

Repairs to the African primate roundhouses will resume after hopefully.

If you read in the latest commission there are phases to reimagine the Children's Zoo section.

A crested capuchin was born on Saturday, July 20 (info on the date of birth was given by the keeper who was standing at their exhibit).

The female lowland (spotted) paca is now in the exhibit with the crested caracara. The male remains in the exhibit in the Rainforest of the Americas and, as mentioned previously, only has access to the exhibit when the howler monkeys are inside their night house.

Updates:

-I saw the Maned Wolf, Binturongs, and Tufted Deer were active in the Afternoon.

-The Watermill Building with Wheel of the Swan Habitat is finished, and the next part that needs to be finished is the rest of the Habitat.

-The Trumpeter Swans have moved out from the Lower Aviary to prepare for the Move.

There is a recommendation to send Estrela the female 4-year-old jaguar to Los Angeles Zoo from Zoo Granby. Go to page 383 and you will see it
Regulations.gov
What does "ABILENE declined transfer" mean? It's in the notes for the transfer? Also wondering if it is a 2-year old female as the listing says, or a 4-year old female as you've described? In either case it would be lovely to have a second jaguar.
