I would appreciate if someone would be able to find out the current state of affairs around babirusa at LA Zoo!Yes they do (saw one during my visit a couple days ago), but am unaware of their info.
Affirmative. He is not new, he has been at the zoo for about 10 years.
Welcome to ZooChat, looks like you joined this summer. Your question could only be answered by the zoo, but zoos do not always mention transfers/births/deaths/etc. Many of the long time members here share information from various sources when available, population lists, etc. That being said, the LA Zoo is actually very transparent in animal transactions and you can find those often here on this thread, and tied to their board meeting minutes as well. I am certain it was mentioned that they acquired a new male Okapi there, but the animals also are not typically mentioned by name. Typically just if it was a male or female from that species. Then how come they just mentioned him?

The post in question was a post in recognition of World Okapi Day, which was yesterday. The Zoo was just highlighting the okapi they have in celebration of the day, not announcing a new arrival.Welcome to ZooChat, looks like you joined this summer. Because it was World Okapi Day on 18 October, and he is an Okapi. Nowhere in their posts did they say he was new to the zoo. Then how come they just mentioned him?

Is it open yet??From my recent visit.
The Swan Habitat pool has been remodeled and filled with water with a running waterfall.
Not yet, the last parts are landscaping and adding the swans into the Habitat. Is it open yet??
Interesting!LA has one female named Kristina who was born in May 2014 in LA. Peanut Butter, their male, passed away in September 2023. Their 2 daughters, who were born in July 2021, moved to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo earlier this year.
Interesting!
In the Fresno thread it was alluded to that a babirusa female had recently been transferred out to Fresno's Chaffee Zoo from LA Zoo. Just note the comments at #52 in the Fresno Zoo 2024 thread!
The link refers to one of the LA Zoo monthly zoo updates and minutes (mid April 2024).

Whereas they do not mention which individual babirusa was loaned to Fresno Zoo. It is quite possible that the mother to the two LA Zoo offspring already at Fresno have been joined up by their mother. Perhaps one of the Fresno Zoo regulars can confirm that there are now 3 babirusas at Fresno (if that is true).
The 2 females calves have already been at Fresno Zoo since 2021!
Cool!Thx for the reply. Not yet, the last parts are landscaping and adding the swans into the Habitat.
Thanks for clarifying the situation around the babirusas at LA Zoo. I assume that female Kristina will remain at LA Zoo indefinitely and no longer be bred (she is now 9+ years old).Kristina, the mother of the 2 babirusas in Fresno, remains in LA. She had to have a Caesarean section when she was pregnant with them and they ended up having to be hand-reared. The sisters were always on exhibit together in LA and moved together to Fresno in May 2024.
The April 2024 Animal Transactions Report notes a loan transfer of 1 female babirusa to Fresno and a separate sale of 1 female babirusa to Fresno. This accounts for the 2 babirusa sisters now in Fresno.
does anyone knows when the renovation will start? I hope after January. to start
The master plan oneWhat renovation are you referring to? The new swan and Cape vulture exhibits are under construction. Those are the only new animal exhibits currently being renovated.
