Lost, rare, and non-existant media of Indonesian zoos and public aquariums

Horde of saltwater crocodiles at SeaWorld Indonesia. Circa 2013.

This horde is the first and only crocodiles I've seen in SeaWorld Indonesia, back in 2009. It was during a feeding frenzy, when they became aggresive and piled against each other. The only time I've seen SeaWorld's crocodiles yet the most memorable.

Two mobile apps for Jakarta Aquarium that is active from 2017 until 2021. The first is the original app that's launched in 2017 and I don't think that it have been updated ever since. The second is a new one that first launched around 2018-2019 and occasionally updates their news, ticket discounts, as well as animal list.
A brief look of the second Jakarta Aquarium's app.

Jakarta Aquarium's Diving Deep coral reef aquarium, with flame angelfish and bicolor parrotfish. Circa 2018.

It was revamped into a venomous fish aquarium in 2021, until eventually revamped back into a coral reef aquarium, this time with blue LED lighting.

Panther chameleon in it's original larger, open exhibit in Jakarta Aquarium. Circa 2018.

During the aquarium's opening, the chameleon was already housed there. It was later replaced by green iguanas and Malayan porcupines, before briefly replaced by the chameleon again in 2018 and later replaced again by the iguanas and porcupines. In late 2019, a dusky pademelons were housed there until 2022, when they were replaced by tufted capuchin.

Ancol Dreamland, including SeaWorld Indonesia. Circa 2004

Discovered by @Caribbean Flamingo

  • A better look of the aquarium's former freshwater zone, including the Chinese high-fin banded sharks.
  • Horde of false gharials.
  • An aquarium for clownfish, which was removed for unknown reason.

Jakarta, including some footage of SeaWorld Indonesia. Circa 2006.

Discovered by @Caribbean Flamingo
  • Pirarucus and pacus housed in a small aquarium, which today houses dozens of red-bellied piranhas.
  • The original, shallow exhibit of the dugong, with a land area for the handlers to easily enter the aquarium. There was also a presentation of the dugong where the handlers bottle-feed the dugong. As the dugong got older, the presentation was eventually phased out.
  • Young Indian threadfins in the coral reef aquarium

Faunaland's Lone greater flamingo.

Apparently it survived since the zoo's opening until 2020, where it most probably perished during the Covid-19 lockdown.

"Bekisar Museum" in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah. Basicly a park keeping and displaying a variety of chicken breeds and other galliformes.

Due to it's pity condition, the park would probably be demolished during the revitalization.

Steller's sea lion at Taman Safari Bogor.

One of the sea lion, named Marin, was born in 2003 in Aquamarine Fukushima in Japan, she was sent to Taman Safari Bogor in 2005.There was a second Steller's sea lion, which was a male, who also came from Japan.

The Steller's sea lions were displayed in a rather small exhibit for the large pair, near the sea lion show arena. They were phased out somewhere in the mid-2010's.

I was lucky to saw these pair during my first ever visit to Taman Safari Bogor in 2011. They were huge, swimming in circle in a crammed exhibit, atleast for the pair.

An Asmat man performing for Taman Safari Bogor, as well as educating visitors about Asmat culture. From what I can see, Taman Safari Bogor treat the man quite well, although I hope they paid the man well. Whatever that man's currently doing, I hope he's doing good.
Turned out, there were two Asmat men performing and educating for Taman Safari Bogor, named Yance and Alex.

I was able to meet one of the men during a cultural education session, in 2012. He was accompanied by the park's staff, where he was grinding something, probably herbs.

Like I said, I really hope that Taman Safari Bogor treat and paid the men well. I also hope that the men were doing good today.

An article that talked about the Asmat men (In Indonesian):

I saw them back in 2008, 2009 and 2011. In 2013, the exhibit was empty, and in 2018 the exhibit is now occupied by a pair of harbor seals from Prigen (likely surplus animals).
