I am working to clean up the population list for the belugas at Marineland. The last list I had has 42 individuals (15.27). The article above states there are currently 37 whales (9.28). It is possible one of the whales in the list was mislabeled male or there could have been another birth that was not announced. Appears that 6 males may have died since the last list. If anyone can confirm (sources appreciated) any changes to the list below, your help is appreciated!

RIP, hope the belugas go to a sanctuary.A beluga and a sea lion have died.

What I find incredibly odd- is where were they housed during that period? A behind the scenes area given that they were hand-reared is likely. Was there or was there not a rush to integrate them into the main bear exhibit?Marineland has been found guilty on three charges relating to the treatment of 3 of is black bears who were born in 2020. Marineland agreed to a statement of the facts and was then convicted by the judge. It's not a guilty plea but sound pretty close to one. Their punishment will be decided in August.

Why is Marineland breeding black bears in the first place?
Assuming that these are American black bears, not Asian black bears, well... why bother???
American black bears aren't endangered and they're plentiful in Canada to say the least.
Asian black bears are at least classified as vulnerable by the IUCN, not to mention becoming rare in captivity in North America.
I suppose that I just don't see any justifiable reason for Marineland to be breeding this species, not when every year there's wild orphans in need of placement.
When the news came out 4 years ago, it was noted that they were oops babies, so a result of birth control failure.
The only “source” to this is that person themselves- and blogs ran with it. Not to mention this has been a repeated rumour by the same individual for the past 4 years now.Seems like Marineland laid off employees. The park will no longer operate. Marineland Canada is no more. Phil Demers, the protester posted about it a few days ago on Instagram about the laid-off. Maybe Wonderland the amusement park will transform this land. I hope a good zoo or aquarium can take these animals. At least 10 belugas are at the aquarium. With the closing of the Miami Seaquarium. There are so many marine animals that need to be relocated. I think the Guy / Gal that did bring in the rumour should be prosecuted for malicious slander ... no matter how much the Marineland may be deficiënt in animal husbandry - that can be improved upon. I do think some management change and focus might help. First and foremost, I find the whole war on whales in captive dolphinaria a complete charade. It will not help conserving belugas in the wild one bit.The closure rumours are false; Marineland denies claims of layoffs, closure
