Symbio Wildlife Park Marmosets and Tamarins taken in raid

here's an article about the turn of events:
Monkey business ends with Conchetta safe | Courier Mail
MISSING female monkey Conchetta has been found alive and well four months after being stolen from Alma Park Zoo, north of Brisbane.

When the endangered cotton-top tamarin was returned to Simbio Wildlife Park, south of Sydney, it was thought to be Rico, which was taken from the park last May.

But yesterday morning the monkey was confirmed as 12-year-old Conchetta after handlers recognised her identification chip.

Alma Park spokeswoman Dena Loveday said Conchetta was healthy and would remain with other cotton-top tamarins at the Helensburgh wildlife park before returning home.

"We don't know what she's been through, she will be moved back to Queensland to be cared for by keepers she knows when she is ready," Ms Loveday said. "But we'll have to wait on advice from a vet and she'll have a quarantine process to complete."

The heavily pregnant female was stolen from Alma Park on October 10 last year.

Her male partner Tonto was found bludgeoned to death in a nearby street the same day.

"The chances for her twins are not looking good," Ms Loveday said. "We can only hope."

"The whole violent act was disgusting - Tonto had several internal injuries, the male monkey had obviously put up a fight and paid for it.

"We're in the process of working with the zoo network to look for another breeding partner for her."

A Victorian man, 34, handed Conchetta to Simbio Wildlife Park on Saturday and told police it was bought by a friend on the internet.

That first article calls them Cotton-tail Tamarins - gotta love journos!

If Alma Park doesn't have any other Cottontops, wouldn't it be better to leave Conchetta at Symbio so she won't be lonely (especially considering she's most likely been alone for several months)?

:p

***PYGMY MARMOSETS STOLEN***PLEASE SHARE***
We are appealing for your HELP after the theft of three of our Pygmy Marmosets last night, by some heartless soul!

The three marmosets, being the father, Gomez - 10, Sophia - 1, and a four-week-old yet to be named newborn, were taken from their enclosure after entry was forced. The new born is of most concern and needs to be reunited with it's mother as it's still reliant on its mums milk.

PLEASE HELP us get the word out to as many people, as quickly as possible and SHARE THIS POST far and wide.

If you have any information, please contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 to help us with the safe return of our marmosets.

Thank you
The Symbio Family"

Female, Sofia has now been recovered and the baby has been reunited with mum

Male, Gomez is still missing (hope he's found soon)

Statement from Facebook:

LATEST UPDATE ON STOLEN PYGMY MARMOSETS***

Our four week old baby was reunited with Mum and the remaining family members late yesterday afternoon after being given the all clear.

Mum cradled the baby straight into her arms and bub immediately began to feed.

Early observations this morning are promising, with two bright eyed twins observed on mums back - so a great result.

Late last night police recovered a second Marmoset, 10 month old Sofia. Sofia was brought back to Symbio and remained in keeper care overnight, as it was too late in the night to introduce back to the family.

Sofia was received in OK condition, hungry and understandably scared.

Sofia was reunited with her family early this morning and we are giving the group privacy to re-bond after their ordeal.

THE WHEREABOUTS OF FATHER GOMEZ IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

Our Pygmy Marmoset exhibit and surrounds will be CLOSED today to give the family privacy, and we urge anyone who may have information as to the location of Gomez to please contact Crime Stoppers and the Wollongong Police Department.

Thank you to the Police for their tireless work in recovering our Marmosets, to all of our followers who have assisted in sharing our story and to those who have provided information to the authorities.

This has been a difficult time for all of our staff, and we sincerely appreciate all of the support we have received both locally and internationally.
We will endeavour to respond to all of our queries and messages of support throughout the day.

Updates on Gomez and how the family is settling in will be provided as they become available.

Thank you

The Symbio Family

Success! Gomez has thankfully been found (according to the local news dumped in front of a vet):

*** LATEST UPDATE - GOMEZ IS HOME!!***

We have some great news to share - Gomez was located by the Police late last night and brought back to Symbio!

Like Sofia and the baby, Gomez was received in OK condition, and very scared.

Gomez has been reunited with his family this morning and we are allowing them as much time as needed to settle back in, in privacy.

Sofia, the baby and the remaining family members are all doing well.

Our exhibit will remain closed again today to give the family time to re bond with Gomez, as we observe the dynamics within the family.

Symbio would like to thank the the Police - in particular the Wollongong Police Department and Detectives for their tireless work in the safe recovery of all three Marmosets.

Thank you to all of our followers and the overwhelming support from the general public who assisted the police and crime stoppers - You made this recovery possible.

We will keep our followers updated on how the family is recovering.

Sincere Thank You

The Symbio Family
