Marwell Wildlife Marwell Zoo News 2020

At the risk of resurrecting the old debate about Marwell’s decline, I have to disagree - there are things that I wish the tropical house did better for sure, but it added a decent amount to the animal collection. There is a nice collection of free flying birds that the zoo had no capacity for beforehand, many of which are now breeding in there, for instance. Of course there is the sloth as well, which I know from witnessing on my visits that the public enjoy. And the crocodile monitor exhibit is excellent too. Yes it was a lot of money but the old tropical house was looking very tired, and from what I understand extremely energy inefficient, in contrast to the knew one which has the ability to turn the zoo’s animal dung into energy as well. Overall it definitely upgraded the visitor experience.
Although I can't agree with this entirely, there are clearly some merits for the new tropical house - at a price.
But as you suggest, I don't really want to open the old debate again so will resist further comment.

Some sad news to start the day with.

11 year Amur tiger Milla has sadly passed away. She stopped breathing "while under anesethitic for routine contraceptive procedure, full health check and vaccinations"

There are 27 (including 2 officially recognised amur hybrids). Marwell now has a single male amur tiger named Bagai. Is that correct?

One of the two Blesbok born this year has died. Four Grevy's Zebra have moved to Woburn.

Marwell announced via Facebook yesterday that their Linne's two-toed Sloth Rica will be leaving to form a breeding pair at ARTIS Amsterdam Zoo. A male will apparently be coming from Banham Zoo as a replacement.

In the tropical house a crocodile monitor has died leaving two in there,Marwell no longer holds Congo Buffalo or Warthog, but Serval have returned. Hopefully some other new species will be coming in soon.

0:2 Pzwewalski horses arrived at the end of November from Highland wildlife Park, however the troop of squirrel monkeys have left and have been split up with the male going to Texal zoo in the Netherlands and the females travelled to Vienna.

The island is Texel. Would be interested what facility you are talking about! There is to my knowledge a Sea Life Center (not owned or operated by SLC UK, it is a national fisheries institute) and nothing much else like a zoo.
