It's been out of use for over a decade now. I'm looking forward to seeing it again once they've finished! They've also repainted every building that needed it, using forensic paint matching. With the tram out for the foreseeable future, it'll give a really nice walk from the entrance to the main zoo.
 
Looking at Google Earth...it would seem that the old Small Mammal House above Main Valley still exists. Do you know if this correct?

Yeah, it's still there. There is no power and the water has been shut off to the building for some time. It's used as storage mainly. The old cages and displays are still mainly intact and it's very interesting

Very well, that said. Both male new male rhinos were born in 2016 right (one in June, the other August) and are half siblings and born at a private facility? If so, there is not a lot of choice for former collection among private facilities known.

Their former male rhino Stubby was transferred to a certain private facility before November 2020.

That is all correct. They were born at wherever they came from, I believe.
 
On ‘Rhinos of the World’ website, it that’s that Jelani was born in Singapore to Shova x Hoepel, but could’ve been transferred to White Oak or Rum Creek. I’m not sure if this is one hundred percent true, but it gives possible info nonetheless. And as for JP, it said no info about him.

That is not true because worldrhino.com also says that the Jelani from Singapore was born in 2007 and is now 14 years old but Maryland has stated that both Jelani and J.P. are only four years old and are from a private facility accredited by the AZA.

If the boys aren't from Rum Creek or White Oak, I can't think of any other "private facility" associated with the AZA that has a large breeding population of SWR. Do Iron Mountain Ranch or Peace River have SWR?

About Jelani on WR.com it is a mistake. He is not from Singapore.
 
Also, if we cannot have the name of the 'private facility' they come from, the other possibility is that both Jelani and P. J. are from White Oak but are part of the huge importation the facility had 5 or 6 years ago. Maybe they were born there, but were conceived in the wild. It could explain the notches they have in the ears, that is a sign that only wild rhinos have. But it is only a mere speculation.
 
Yes, I'm positive that they are not from white oak or rum creek.

That's not what their notches are from.
 
I just went to the zoo recently and learned some info that may interest the people here
- 6 female wood turtles were brought to the zoo from a New York confiscation. They were recently joined by a wild-caught male in the hopes of creating a breeding program at the zoo. The end goal is for the offspring to be released into the wild.
- the birds in the marsh aviary are producing eggs as per usual, but because no breeding recommendations were made for the birds the eggs are all shaken to prevent development
- two new cotswold sheep were also recently added to the barn yard. Two four month old females named Daphne and Delilah
- Maisie also ventured outside for the first time on Wednesday according to social media
- Samson the elephant is also the only member of the herd not currently adjusted to the new upper savanna yard. However this could have changed in recent weeks
 
The historic Main Valley will open to visitors on September 28th. Besides some off exhibit hornbills and cranes at Crane Barn, no animals will be exhibited. Some of the oldest cages date back to the zoo's founding in 1876

Since they're opening it up, I'm going to add my photos from July to the gallery. It sounds like they've added a bunch more signage, and the place will obviously be cleaner and tidied up now.
There's only one cage that dates back to the founding.
