the zoo announced a Pygmy Slow Loris was born on December 13th,the parents are Samper and Artemis. the keepers sadly had to step in and give a helping hand in order for the baby to have the best chance of survival.

Baby primate alert! We are excited to announce the birth of the rare and endangered Pygmy slow loris. This special primate was born December 13th, and he is the offspring of Samper and Artemis. Zoo veterinarians determined he needed extra assistance to give him the best chance of survival, so he is being hand-reared by dedicated staff who feed him every 2 hours around the clock. He has graduated from formula to a slurry of banana, leaf eater biscuit, water, and formula which he eats out of a bowl. The keepers will determine a name as they learn more about his personality. On February 5th, the zoo announced its name, Gizmo.

Our baby Pygmy slow loris officially has a name — meet GIZMO! Gizmo is quite the fighter and doubled in size since December. He is steadily gaining weight everyday and now eats a baby food mix of formula, banana, and leaf-eater biscuits. Memphis Zoo has applied for a permit to import two tigers from Taronga Zoo in Australia:

1.0 Pemanah (17/01/2019) Clarence x Kartika
0.1 Mawar (17/01/2019) Clarence x Kartika

Mawar will transfer from Memphis Zoo to Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Washington within 30-60 days of her arrival in Memphis.

Clarence’s mother is Kaitlyn (2007), who was imported by Australia Zoo from Indonesia in 2008.

A male baby African Penguin named Frodo was born on January 21st to parents Betty and Pippin.
He is the 49th African penguin chick to be born at the zoo.
Introducing… Frodo! Frodo was born to parents Betty and Pippin on January 21st. He is the 49th African penguin chick to be hatched at Memphis Zoo. Frodo’s parents are a recommended breeding pair by the SSP (Species Survival Plan) which make Frodo’s genetics very valuable for the endangered African penguin species. Keepers have described his personality as both laid back and curious, and he enjoys munching on silver sides fish. On March 11th, the zoo announced that the Cathouse Cafe reopened to the public.

Today the zoo announced that their 0.1 generic giraffe "Angela Kate" passed away on March 5th at the age of 17 from falling and sustaining injuries while on exhibit overnight. She had four calves during her lifetime at the zoo, all of which have moved elsewhere.
