Can anyone confirm if the pangolins ever went on exhibit here? They are not listed or mentioned on their website, as I would expect them to be if they were on display.

Memphis has displayed White-Bellied Tree Pangolins since late May/early June of last year in the Animals of the Night (nocturnal) exhibit (per the linked article). I usually only see them during the day cycle, when they’re always sleeping, but they have been pretty active the few times I’ve seen them during their night cycle. I misspoke in a previous post when I said they’d been displayed since March but they had moved around in the building a bit, currently the male and female are in adjacent but separate habitats right near the entrance before Lua the 1 year-old Linnea’s Two-toed Sloth that was hand raised last year.

Memphis Zoo becomes 3rd US zoo to ever house this endangered species

I visited the zoo for the first time on September 26 and noted a complete species list of the zoo's Animals of the Night nocturnal house which features an impressive collection in 24 exhibits. Exhibits are listed in the approximate order in which they are encountered along the visitor path; except where noted, all exhibits are small room-sized habitats behind glass:

I had good luck viewing most of the animals while they were active in the mid-afternoon; the exhibit quality is mostly average, with the unfortunate use of too many star lights in the ceiling and the use of mirrors on some of the exhibit walls creating a bit of visual chaos. Fortunately I was the only one in the exhibit all on a blissfully uncrowded day so it was a treat.

What was your opinion of the rest of the zoo? What did you think of the cultural theming? How do you rank the new hippo exhibit relative to other hippo exhibits that you have seen like San Diego and Disney's Animal Kingdom?

From looking at comments on the photos in the gallery it looks like one of Memphis Zoo's weaknesses is outdated Africa megafauna exhibits for giraffes, elephants, and rhinos...did you find this to be the case?

I enjoyed the zoo including the extensive cultural theming! However there are a few areas that are ramshackle, including the elephant exhibit yards. The other nearby African animal exhibits were fine though. The new hippo and Nile crocodile exhibits are topnotch, but none of them can match Animal Kingdom's. Unfortunately some of the other exhibits in Zambezi River Hippo Camp exhibit complex are not as successful, almost seeming like afterthoughts for mandrill, okapi and yellow-backed duiker, and lowland nyala. I rank the zoo at #37 of the 79 zoological facilities I have visited.

Does the zoo no longer exhibit cacomistle then?

Are any of their Marianas bird species exhibited?

I did not see cacomistle when I was there in October, so probably not, although I did not explore the farm area in case they are there.

I looked into it a bit and it turns out the zoo's last cacomistle died in July 2018 and Tinian Monarch in November 2018 :(

Interesting that they point out that they are diurnal, even though he is displayed in "Animals of the Night"

It sure was active when I was there in the late afternoon. A pleasure to watch in the darkness. Huge claws that clicked against the ground surface!

The zoo has welcomed a new female jaguar, "Philomena", from the Brevard Zoo. Introductions with the zoo's resident male have been going smoothly, and the pair are on exhibit together in Cat Country.
