Each line indicates one enclosure, unless preceded by a colon (in which case they are separated by / ). Species that were seen are marked in regular text, species that were unseen are marked in italics; however, for this review the Herpetarium and Aquarium are exempt from this and will be entirely in regular text. Domestic species may be listed but are not counted in the totals.

Note: this species list is still under edit and revision for the next 24 hours, so you might see some slight changes.

Yeah
Disappointing to see the zoo has lost many of the interesting ungulate species that were once displayed in the Round Barn & the African Veldt, Although it is great news that the zoo has received a Banded Palm Civet from Nashville! Hopefully more can be distributed amongst other American zoos in the near future.
Yeah I was a little shocked to see how one of the animals I wanted to come to Memphis most to see the gerenuk was completely gone from the round barn along with the other ungulates, disappointed with how that area is basically non-existent now. Although the fact they have bear ciscus, which I never knew they had, has brought my hopes up to see for when I go soon.

Some notes and additions from my December 23, 2021 visit
Cat Complex (14 spp)

Tiger (ssp?)
Caracal
It was signed as Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris), but that can't be right, can it?

Helmeted Guineafowl
There were also unsigned Chilean Flamingos with the Lesser Flamingos and Whistling Ducks
Are the Guineafowl wild or domestic type?

African Veldt (7 spp)

Generic Giraffe
It was signed as Reticulated, are they not pure?

On my visit, Red-Billed Blue Magpie (Urocissa erythroryncha) was with the Temminck's Tragopan.
Azure-Winged Magpie (Cyanopica cyanus) was with the Lady Amherst’s Pheasant instead of the Red-Billed blues and Golden Pheasant was also signed with them but I did not see any.

Pygmy slow loris was also signed and I saw them in this exhibit

Tropical Bird House (50 spp)

Glass-fronted Exhibits in Hallways:
Beautiful Fruit Dove (temporarily off-exhibit)

Both were signed and back on exhibit

Tropical Bird House (50 spp)

Free-Flight Room

Seen and unsigned: Magpie Shrike, Red-and-Yellow Barbet, Golden-breasted Starling
Signed and unseen: Lavender Waxbill, Hooded Pitta, White-throated Ground Dove
The same unsigned birds were still in the free flight room, additionally, I can confirm the Lavender Waxbill and Hooded Pitta are both still present

It was signed as Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris), but that can't be right, can it?

Generic then, unless they switched to subspecific and didn't change the signage.

Are the Guineafowl wild or domestic type?

No idea.

It was signed as Reticulated, are they not pure?

The "Reticulated" and "Rothschild's/Baringo" in the US are all or nearly all hybrid-mix of each other. Only the Masai population is pure.

Nice work getting photographs and IDs for all of those fish - I was sure there were a decent number of unsigned species in there, but I had other priorities during my visit.

Round Barn (5 spp)
The West African crowned cranes are now next to the East African crowned cranes. White-naped cranes are also on display next to the West African crowned cranes.
Tropical Bird House (50 spp)
Burrowing Owl
No sign of the burrowing owls on my visit 2 days ago. I saw a crested coua in the exit room.
Green Jay
No sign of them either.
Animals of the Night (28 spp)
Splendid Tree Frog
No longer there.
Northern Luzon Giant Cloud Rat
Sadly not present anymore.
Pygmy slow loris was also signed and I saw them in this exhibit
Did not see these guys, no signage either.
Aquarium (42 spp)
  • Unsigned Tube-snout (Aulorhynchus flavidus), other fish in kelp tank
Painted greenling, kelp perch, and Urcina anemones in this tank.
Moon jellies
Two tanks for these guys, with one in each.
Banded Archerfish (Toxotes jaculatrix), Signed with Green Spotted Puffer which I didn't see
Saw a lone archerfish with a Monodactylus argenteus.
Porcupine puffer (Diodon hystrix), Green moray eel, Unsigned Blue chromis, Spanish Hogfish
No sign of the chromis, I did see Atlantic blue tang and a few bluehead wrasse. Foureye butterfly fish were signed but not seen.
Loiselle’s Cichlid (Parachromis loisellei)
Seen in the tank witht he stingray, I'm pretty sure these were the cichlids I saw in the tank with the ripsaw catfish.
Spotted Snake Eel (Myrichthys aspetocherios), Whitetip soldierfish (Myripristis vittata)
No sign of the soldierfish, but I did see an annularis angelfish, engineer gobies, and an unsigned three-striped damselfish.
Iridescent Shark (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus), Giant gourami, Unsigned Giant Danio (Devario aequipinnatus)
Rosy barbs are also present in this tank.

No sign of the arapaima, leporinus, or convict cichlid. There was a large group of (probably) Loiselle's cichlids. I also saw a peacock bass (Cichla ocellaris) and what has been IDed as a fat vulture catfish.
Electric eel
Housed with ember tetras and a another species of tetra which is currently unidentified.
Motoro River stingray (Potamotrygon motoro), Peacock bass (Cichla ocellaris), Flag tail cichlid (Semaprochilodus insignis), Unsigned catfish, Cascarudo (Callichthys callichthys), Emperor panaque (Panaqolus albivermis)
Only saw the stingray and Loiselle's cichlids.
Northern snakehead (Channa argus)
No longer present. Based off of where this tank is on your list, it appears that it has been converted into a North American tank housing bluehead chubs, creek chubs, dollar sunfish, redspotted sunfish, longear sunfish, and warmouth.
  • Blue Discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus), Unsigned catfish, Julii Cory (Corydoras julii), Lemon Tetra, Rummy nose tetra (Hemigrammus rhodostomus)
No sign of the lemon tetras, though there was a large group of cardinal tetras present in the tank.
  • Convict cichlid (Amatitlania nigrofasciata)
  • Tearspot barb (Dawkinsia rohani)
  • American flagfish (Jordanella floridae), Electric blue crawfish (Procambarus alleni)

  • Ganges leaffish (Nandus nandus), Unsigned minnow

This area seems to have changed quite a bit. There was a tank with Elassoma zonatum, one with cockatoo dwarf cichlids, sterbai corys, and blue tetras. I also saw a tank with pea puffers. The leaffish are no longer present, and neither are the cherry shrimp and loaches. I also recall seeing another species of cory, though I do not remember what exactly it was.
Palette tang (Paracanthurus hepatus), Flame angelfish (Centropyge loriculus), Bicolor Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor)
The tank with the ocellaris clownfish (the one set off to the side) had a flame angelfish, red cleaner shrimp, and a longsnout hawkfish. The other entry tank (situated in the center wall) had a blue tang and a currently unidentified fish.
Herpetarium (65 spp)
Panther Chameleon (temporarily off-exhibit)
No sign of this species.
Budgett’s Frog
Signed, but I couldn't find where they were.
No longer present.

Wow, it really seems like there has been a reduction in the collection. How many of these have been replaced, as especially the reptile house would be pretty empty with that many removals.

I didn't see any empty exhibits in the reptile house, I was just unable to determine what animals replaced the ones that are gone, because it appears that the collection has moved around a bit.
a currently unidentified fish.
Now IDed as a flame hawkfish.
another species of tetra which is currently unidentified.
IDed as bleeding heart tetras.

Do you have a new species list for the reptile house now then?
