Edinburgh Zoo Mercedes Replacement

Now that Mercedes has left the zoo, what do you guys think will replace her? Or what would you like to see replace her?

If not an animal form elsewhere in the park, what animals would you like to see added to the collection to take up residece on Mercedes' rock?
 
I will pass on this as i know what is planned, but whether or not it happens is another thing, but it will happen sooner rather than later.
 
I heard Sun bear are on the cards, obviously a lot of work needed on the exhibit though!!!
 
What would need to be changed about the enclosure rather than a good clean up? Ignore my ignorance but i know nothing about sun bears
 
URGH!!!

all you UKers seem to do is taunt eachother with species guessing games. the amount of threads that are page after page devoted to sucking up to one member who smugly announces they know of a new species arriving, but are not telling - it kills me.

i didn't realise that zoo collection plans were a matter of national security.

what a bore!

You said a new species, I cannot remember anyone mentioning where the Giant Pandas were going in the collection IF they arrive. I put two and two together and obvious got five! :p As everyone seems to think am crazy.

A lot of the time people are told what is happening in confidence - if the zoo doesn't want you to release the information most on here would respect that. However, it's human nature to want to give out as much as you can without breaking that trust; hence the posts along the lines of 'it's a new species to the collection' and so on.

There have been several threads around here lately that have just been painful to read - I wouldn't single out the guessing-game ones, which at least generally avoid name-calling!

Sorry - I usually try to correct any threads that talk about an animal by name without saying what it is!

Mercedes in a female Polar Bear resident at Edinburgh for many years (now moved to the sister park at Highland). She is currently the only Polar Bear on full-time display in Britain (though there is a second at Heythrop, a private zoo only open to the general public for occasional open days).
