As if to add to the irony of the discussion, the article's abrupt end is on the 'Worst Zoos for Elephants' reference. Milwaukee really needs some go-to line to refute or minimize that.

- Welcome Jesse and Sprite, the Zoo’s two new male mongooses! Jesse, the larger of the two, was born in November 2005, and Sprite was born in September 2012. Both are getting along wonderfully with the Zoo’s female mongoose, Oakley.
- The Zoo welcomed a young greater kudu male to the herd. He is a little over 1 year old and is named Hasani, which is the Swahili word for “handsome.” Hasani loves attention and head scratches.
- Three common waterbuck females have also found their home at the Zoo. They were named Hannah, Natalie and Elise after the granddaughters of a Zoo Ball auction winner. All three were born in 2017 and arrived at the end of October from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
An interesting observation I made today while looking over the hippo design that we received from the news source the other day. I did an overlay of it to the current hippo exhibit. It looks like that are keeping the left wall (if looking from the path onto the exhibit) and filling in most of the current exhibit, while expanding into the current home of the bongos. Their old exhibit will be where the new path will be, while the bongos exhibit will be the new hippo exhibit. That will leave the old elephant exhibit and river hogs area in tact for the time being.
I know I have seen the master plan and all but are we really going to have two rhino exhibits on either side of the building? If so are they going to be to keep the same species genders separated or are we going to have both white and black rhinos exhibited. There has also been rumors they are already scaling back phase III of Adventure Africa, so then how are they scaling phase III back? Are they not going to make one building for the rhinos/hoofstock/hippos? Are they going to have onside renovated while the other side gets a cheap makeover for something less enticing? So many questions about phase III and yet we haven't got through phase I yet fully.

I'm hopeful and optimistic that the zoo won't need to scale back any more projects after the elephants and hippos exhibits are (hopefully) grand slams, thus generating enough public motivation and excitement to donate and reach the full potential of the renovations. I'm confident that we'll know more about phase III after phase II construction is in full swing. I remember reading somewhere that the phase III plans aren't officially finalized yet, so there is a little bit of time that we'll just have to wait.
My GUESS would be that male rhinos will be exhibited on one side and females the other, with or without the possible scale-back of the phase III (which aren't even confirmed)
This is what makes expensive multi-phase projects problematic sometimes -- it's common for a commitment to waver for later aspects when issues arise in an early part, which can be fatal if the planning was centralized around the final result or later phase additions. I don't think this will be too significant a problem for Milwaukee, as elephants and hippos are very charismatic, star species and will therefore draw plenty of visits and attention, but it's a reason to keep a careful eye and be wary all the same.

No males at the MCZ
Two Green Tree Monitors named Lou Ferrigno and Dr. Banner have arrived. Not sure if they replaced the Black Tree Monitors, or if they zoo exhibits both species now.
Does the Zoo have specific sections in the Reptile/Aquarium building for the monitors? Did they have an empty exhibit last time you visited?
The only empty exhibit I'm aware of is the old Ornate Flying Snake exhibit. So either they're in there, or they replaced the Black Tree Monitors.
I went today and the Black Tree Monitors were still on exhibit. The open exhibit does have signage that says its under renovation, so one would assume the Green Tree Monitors are backstage and will eventually be placed there.
You mean the old flying snake exhibit (next to the King Cobra)?
No, I was referring to the one on the end "snake wall" near the Lake Victoria exhibit and the exit.
But it could already be in the old flying snake exhibit and I just didn't see it, I didn't spend much time in the ARC today because of a loud school group, and didn't know to be on the lookout for them.
