Milwaukee County Zoo Milwaukee County Zoo News 2019

The zoo finally updated their map in there app, gone is the string rays from 2014, hello Adventure Africa phase 1.
Any idea what the "Tembo Trail" and "Savannah Walk" areas are? Also its worth noting that the new hippo exhibit is officially listed as opening in May 2020.

Milwaukee County Zoo had to say bye to baby red panda and orangutan

An interesting article that includes info about who the next “friend” for Tommy will be...a 36 year old female hybrid named Alex from Cincinnati. It also appears the zoo will acquire two zebras and two ostrich soon.
Welcome to ZooChat, GoMarq. The news of ostriches is very exciting, as I remember the zoo teasing another bird species coming in with the new area many months ago.

Just one Plains Zebra currently held here. No idea about the sex of the animal.

Beat me to it!

I wonder what happened to the second zebra? As far as I’ve known, we’ve had a mother and daughter pair named Zink and Kelly.

Nice to hear that more zebras are coming, along with the return of ostriches. :)

They are both still at the zoo. Sometimes they only have one on display at a time other times they both are. Not sure what is the deciding factor but so far we still have the mother daughter pair. Just saw both out on display last week.

Good to hear. I heard once that one of the zebras doesn’t get along with most of the other species on display, hence only one on exhibit most of the time.

According to the sponsor an animal information
Kelly is a Chapman's Zebra and Zink is a Damara Zebra. Both are plains subspecies
Could someone explain to me why we have this distinction but yet still dub the overall information just as plains zebra? The new exhibit signs in AA just say plains while the watering hole specifies, yet when I try to do research on the difference I’m always redirected back to plains.

Also maybe one will be a male and we will start a breeding program at the zoo for zebras?

Chapman's and Damara are subspecies of Plains Zebra.
