A new female sloth Nentas living with Fezzik. They are recommended for breeding.
Disappointing to see the project delayed, but its at least reassuring to hear that the hippos will indeed be getting a new indoor space. I was slightly concerned that the rollbacks on the proposal would have meant that part of the project would be abandon. Its also neat to hear the possibly of a few smaller species as well.An article on the Zoo Director retiring:

-Some interesting notes from the article on the future rhino exhibit renovation;
"The initial design portion for renovations to the current rhino area is in process and will be completed in May of 2022. Construction of the exhibit is planned for 2023. The exhibit will combine the current Rhino habitat with the former elephant exhibit and create indoor exhibit space for rhinos, hippos and additional small African species under a large skylit area."
It sounds like they're still planning to connect the pachy malls under one roof- evidently a skylight.
That guy is really dumbMan detained after he 'jumped into' MKE zoo's elephant enclosure
Oh, this just keeps getting better and better! Get a load of this!

I am hoping the new director will create a more innovative state of the art exhibit out of this new pachyderm habitat and all the future new exhibit plans TBH.An article on the Zoo Director retiring:

Would it not be an option/idea for Milwaukee to participate in the rewilding and re-establishment of wild cinereous vultures in Eurasia (given their number of juveniles and breeding pairs)?
Why is it that Milwaukee cannot house the singleton black rhino off-exhibit elsewhere on the property? At 7 years she needs to be in a breeding situation.
The hope is once the population does get to a certain point, which from what I was told is almost there, they will begin sending these birds over to Europe to be released into the wild after reintroduction happens.Would it not be an option/idea for Milwaukee to participate in the rewilding and re-establishment of wild cinereous vultures in Eurasia (given their number of juveniles and breeding pairs)?

So what buildings are currently closed?Lastly, not sure if this has been discussed yet, the reasons why all buildings aren’t open yet. It’s due to the ventilation system in the buildings that are still close. Buildings that have separated systems (one for guests and one for the animals) are the buildings that are open, since the other building share the same system and the animals are more apt to getting the virus, the buildings remain close. They are hoping though they can get the animals vaccinated and open the buildings soon.
Currently, small mammals and the primate building after the bonobos and gorillas were closed, along with the animal hospital.So what buildings are currently closed?
I really what the primates in the small mammals building to move to primates of the world if there was a way to get spaceWent for an animal encounter the other day. Had a lot of fun and learned a lot about some of the things going on at the zoo.
The zoo currently has 9 cinereous vultures, 2 breeding pairs and 5 juveniles. The juveniles are the ones that we see in the African Savannah exhibit while the breeding pairs are behind special outdoor exhibit space and I believe the other is behind the ARC. Currently they believe that they will have a new chick this spring.
As for construction/future plans. The zoo is getting ready for the rhino exhibit expansion. The sad thing is they will be sending our black rhino away once construction starts hopefully next year. As for getting her back they aren’t really sure if she will be returning once construction is finished. Also many of the zoo keepers would like to see the small mammals building torn down and something to replace it. The building was good for its time but functionally very difficult to use now a days.

Oh and it looks like another giraffe is pregnant at the zoo. Not sure when the due date is but that is what I was told.
This summer is looking to be an interesting one at the zoo. Can’t wait to see what’s coming
