Zoeys baby is a little boy still not been named :) Oshine is now on the web sit at alex will not be on her own for much longer as she is being introdused to a young male Mikado who was born a Doue la Fountaine bioparc zoo to an elderly female who sadly passed away when he was just 4 weeks so monkey world have been asked to take him on and he slowly been introdused to alex in the hope she will help him grow like she did with peanut when she first arrived.........

also arried at the park are a pair of elderly woolly monkeys Oaska and Quapa from Basel zoo, they will sat at monkey world why there home is renovated. oaska is important to the breeding program in woolly monkey as he is a poeppigii woolly monkey born in brazil in the wild so has no family in captivaty.

I don't understand what this means - is poeppigii a sub-species and if so is it the same as all the others or are they being mixed?

It's a sub species (according to Wiki)
- Lagothrix lagotricha is the "brown" or "common" woolly monkey
- Lagothrix cana is the Grey Woolly
- Lagothrix lugens is the Lugens or Colombian Woolly (Xusy at MW)
- Lagothrix poeppigii is the Silvery or Poeppigii's Wolly

Under that taxonomy poeppigii is a species of woolly monkey, not a subspecies.

If Monkey World really do have L. lugens and L. poeppigii then that's very interesting (I saw Basel's animals in September last year so will need to check this out!).

Xusy is a pure Lugens (according to what I have heard at keepers talks etc. That's also mentioned on the programme a couple of times as well)

Thanks for that - interesting stuff. Zootierliste knows nothing about the lugens, though it does list the poeppigii from Basel.

No probs :)
Xusy is also, apparently, the world's oldest captive woolly and was wild caught before being rescued by MW (not sure when she arrived at MW though).

But who is he going to breed with, that's what I don't understand; are there others of that species/sub-species, otherwise how is he of any significance to the breeding programme if he lives with an elderly female.

Come to think of it I guess he's the one Monkey World's Lena and another are with to try & breed, but are they L. poeppigii?

I was watching monkey life today and I noticed that Gordon's eyes seem quite bad. His left eye looks almost permanently shut and the right one looks damaged. Is the result of anything, e.g. fighting, or have they always been like that?

He was bitten by Tuan when they still lived together - tried to interfere when he was mating with Amy, his mum. Wasn't a big injury, just in a bad place, it happened a couple of years ago now, so it seems like it's permanent.

gorden eye was bit by tuan and later caught by roro when playing as he get older it is opening and dosent cose any pain and can still see out of it

Why are lone examples of pure species of Woolly monkey even in the breeding program, let alone important to it?

Does anyone know if the majority of woollys at Monkey world are hybrids or are they pure species?

most woolly monkey in captivaty are hybrids anyway there only a few that arent and there all mostly the ones that are wild cought

Oshine was let out side for the first time with lingga and dinda. a from the photo it looks like she lost a some of the weight she had :) still dont no if zoey baby has been named so if any one knows........
