Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre Monkey World news

Monkey Life Series 18 will be airing on Sky Nature at 5pm on the 2nd November as I just had the heads up on Facebook. Fingers Crossed for the 6 Hamadryas Baboons who should be making the move to Dorset from Lebanon by now
 
MONKEY LIFE S18 News and Updated


-Orangutangs-

-sibu joined park at 11 weeks after mother didn’t feed/rear him (didn’t rear first 2 infants either),
-MW was on standby since she was pregnant
-kiwi joined aged 11 months after Indah-Tessa rejected her and Joly (MW grad) showed no maternal interest in adopting her
-every orangutan nursery graduate female has raised their own infants (amazing news!)
-Monkey life acknowledged Linggas death at Rio safari (2019) and kai/Joly/Membelai are doing well!
-Mimi-Loren graduated to Tuans group

-Woolley Monkeys-
-Levar is the oldest male woolly monkey in Europe
-Xingu had her 6th infant (lloyd)
-Chippys group had a new baby to mum Eva named Xena and later Xuri (over the course of filming)

-chimps-
-Youngest chimp Thelma has settled in the hierarchy at Hanayas Chimps, a high ranking female
-Butch (bachelor boys) diagnosed with heart condition, being treated with medication
-One of the original 9 chimps Mickey passed away in Bart’s group. He was put to sleep after a short illness, post-mortem showed his heart was failing
-Now there’s only Busta, Beth and Cindy left of the OG9
-Lone male Chimp in South America Patagonia (Tony?Toti?) considering bringing him over (not 100%)

-lemurs-
-8 MW lemurs to be joined by 11 lemurs from a private collection (all a family from a breeding pair)
-The 4 new male lemurs taken first named Ben(dad), Steve, Trev, Dave
-Dad Ben only has one leg so the team considered him too much of a risk to live at Malagasy, they are pairing him up with fennel (she’s elderly and has arthritis) to make way for the new females. This may become a retirement group for the older lemurs depending on introductions.
-7 females to move at a later date due to aging fennel being the only current female

-Other-
-New baboon house is built and being used for lemur introductions, move put on hold due to war and as of filming there is no current solid plan in place due to conflict and no planes to take the baboons out of Lebanon
- the order of the episodes on prime video is totally out of order, kiwi appears 3 episodes before she supposedly arrives same with the new lemurs so keep in mind if you’re streaming on prime!!
-Alison considering bring a lone female patas monkey as patas Penelope is elderly and they don’t want MR patas (her partner) to be left alone
-Also considering being 2 geriatric 25 year old stump tailed macaques to join the parks existing 3


The series was dedicated to Dr Jane Goodall who died this year. Any questions I will answer :)
 
Evening all. Hope you're well and just to say I do hope you have enjoyed Monkey Life series 18 2 days ago especially when Orangutans Sibu Jr arrived from Dublin Zoo and Kiwi from Rio Safari Elche in Spain where former Monkey World residents Kai and Joly moved to 9 years ago and now have their own infant called Membelai and there has been lots of talks for sometime now about the rehoming of the 6 Hamadryas Baboons to Monkey World but the problem is at the moment they are still in Lebanon which is another part of the world still experiencing major conflict which means there is still war there and it does mean moving the baboon to Monkey World has to be put on hold at the moment but however their crates has been sent to Lebanon for them to get used to when they do make the move hopefully very soon.

The guitar is a Squire Stratocaster(nice guitar) signed by the members of rock band REO Bandwagon.,currently at 500 dollars

At Least now the crates which will transport the 6 Baboons to the UK has arrived safely in Lebanon
 
Does anyone know how accurate the ZTL animal list is?
Comparing it to the Monkey World website, which lists a lot more animals (though I know some don't always update their official website accordingly).

Which species are not on ZTL? To be honest, its only accurate if people update it following visits.
 
The news about the 6 Baboons is starting to look positive as the fundrasings to move the troop from Lebanon to Monkey World has just recently started
 
Evening guys. Just interested to ask who's enjoying Monkey Life Series 18 so far ? for me it's brilliant especially with the orangutans like Kiwi who arrived last year from Rio Safari Elche in Spain where Kai and Joly moved to 9 years ago to form a new family in Spain despite Lingga's death in 2019 but Kiwi was born to Dad Nakal and Mum Indah Tessa. In the orangutan nursery at Monkey World some of you may have notice that Bulu Mata is reaching maturity as he's now 11 and Rieke now 10 also reaching maturity. Question now is what is their long term future ?

Good point. Unlike Silvestre who moved back to Europe(Basel), I hope that these two might stay as a pair somewhere in the UK, as we have so few Sumatran orangutans in our zoos. But unless MonkeyWorld keep them on and house them as mature adults, I don't know anywhere else that might seem a likely home at present.

That would be good, but I’m not sure where could take them. How represented are their lines here/in Europe? Puluh at Chester must be getting on? Also Jersey still have young male Jantho born 2013 who they must be keen to move on (they posted a video of him recently Log in to Facebook).

Without knowing, I doubt their lines are represented at all in the UK which only has the two groups at Chester and Jersey, plus the two males at Port Lympne. They might be from well -represented lines in Europe though. Neither do I know if genetically they would make suitable partners for breeding, though I believe they are unrelated.
