Went along today, due to the good weather the place was heaving, especially with fat people (sorry not very pc).

Unfortunately the baby giraffe Niamh (the second one born this year) died last week, having been feeding poorly. The earlier baby Margaret is being kept off show at the moment.

Not much further work on the croc pool since the last time I went, it looks like an awful lot of concrete.

The framework for the butterfly house is up, the path around the canal was closed so I couldn't get to see the baby babirusa.

The completed bridge is great, and really opens up that part of the zoo. The cheetah enclosures are well planted and will look really good once they are established. I saw two cheetahs but they were confined to the small pens at the back as the main paddocks are not quite ready.

Saw both sand lizards and Mallorcan midwife toads! The caecilians have been taken off show as no-one could see them (although I did last time).
 
I saw the caecilians last time as well! They are very interesting little things and i watched them for about 10 minutes.

Has the cheetah viewing 'dome' been built yet?
 
The Crocs should be on show for the May bank holiday weekend.I believe the zoo is going to take the Caecilians off-show as they have had complaints that its just an empty tank.

Thanks for the update on the Giraffes its sad news but not completly un-expected.

I don't know how the crocodiles will react to hordes of visitors staring at them, taking photographs and the general hustle and bustle of a bank holiday weekend, but this policy of zoos opening new exhibits at busy times seems to be increasing. Surely after 5-6 months of relative peace and quiet the crocs may possibly get stressed.
 
One of the young Komodo's from Chester is at Rotterdam awaiting it's exhibit at Leipzig to be ready. It'll move on as soon as possible.
 
Just a little query, what are the crowds like at Chester during a working week (i.e. not school holidays and not weekends)?

I assume it's not as busy as peak times, but how busy does it get?
 
We went on Friday. 12.00. About 2 dozen coaches but all the cars were able to be parked on tarmac. Entrance queues were only 3 to 4 deep to get in through 4 open gates. We found a seat in the Oakfield cafe with no wait but not enough visitors for the Acorn bar barbecue to be started. By the way the Chester Zoo AGM will be on the evening of the 10th of June.

I plan on visiting once my exams are over in two weeks and I thought what better time to visit when everyone else is at school or working!;)

Now correct me if i`m wrong but shouldn`t all Chester Senior members get 28 days notice of the AGM,because at the moment your post is the only reason i know the date!!!!!!!!!
 
Same here zoogiraffe. I e-mailed the zoo on Friday asking when the AGM would be held. I haven't yet had a reply.
