Movie review rant 2018

Okay, let's get back to discussing (decent) films! :p

First things first a disclaimer, I've been a naughty boy and watched a pirated film. Something I've not done for many a year, well since they started doing half price tickets... BUT it's Disney's fault for making me wait a month longer than the USA and most of the rest of the world and therefore making spoilers nigh on impossible!

So no full review because the copy was sh*t but I will be able to watch it soon anyway, but Ant-Man And The Wasp seems to be brilliant. The acting appeared great and some of the set pieces were spectacular, the lab and everything inside looked top notch, Laurence Fishburne was brilliant as always and I feel that's the best I can say. Don't want to say too much for the rest of us who still haven't been able to see it in all its glory. Bloody, bloody World Cup! ;)

I've heard a lot of people say they found this movie to be just ok but I loved it! They know the perfect tone to make a movie called Ant-Man and Paul Rudd is always a win. That end credit scene

Yet how should Alan Grant know how a (male) Isla Sorna raptor looked like if he had only encountered the rather different (female) raptors on Isla Nublar? That still bothers me...

Yeah I noted that while rewatching the Honest Trailer for the movie and did bother me.

I never said the movie was good btw! Just better than the two Jurassic Worlds imo :p

I also thought it was brilliant, as you said Paul Rudd as Ant-Man can't go wrong. The only thing that would make the two films better would be to get Edgar Wright to direct... Oh no, can't do that! ;)
The comic tone was the perfect tonic to the epic drama of IW, but the end credits managed to take that euphoric feel good mood of the movie and bring us straight back in to the MCU's current drama. Bring on Captain Marvel! :)

Fun fact: Marvel is going to digitally deage Samuel L. Jackson 25 years for Captain Marvel as it takes place in the 1990s. They've done wonders with the effect thus far and every time they've used it it's looked even better, but I don't know how doing it for a whole film will turn out. I trust them, however, and will wait to see how it turns out.

Why don't they just get a different actor to portray him? Kevin Hart might be free.

Ok so I watched Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom with my brother the other day and now I’m going to go on a rant about why this franchise is awful and I hate it. Heavy spoilers for the entire “film” so if you haven’t seen/don’t want to know what happens then look away!

etc etc etc

So I’ll just leave this here for you, and I hope to hear what you all think. Maybe PM me if you want to discuss spoilers in-depth so not to ruin the film for anyone who genuinely wants to see it?
Did the Editing Room guys read your spoiler?

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom: The Abridged Script

(Spoiler Alert: don't go to the link if you don't want spoilers)

Let's be honest, Jackson has barely aged in the last 25 years or so :p

They certainly won't need to do as much work as they did for Michael Douglas.

Kurt Russell didn't need much work done in Guardians 2, there wasn't exactly a whole lot of difference between the opening scene and his appearance later on.

But as Dave (sort of) implied, if they can make Michael Douglas look young then Sammy J should be no problem. I just hope they give him the Pulp Fiction afro... :p

I think he should just play his character from Pulp Fiction again :p Would certainly make for a different kind of entertaining Marvel movie!

So no spoilers here but I just found out that there was supposed to be a Spinosaurus v T. rex rematch Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom... In that shot from the trailer where the T. rex roars as the volcano explodes, she was supposed to be standing over the body of the Spino that she just killed...

Was back in the real world last week and took the opportunity to see a couple of recently released movies on a big screen:

Skyscraper
This movie is essentially Diehard (the first one) meets The Towering Inferno, with a couple of scenes that were reminiscent of scenes Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon. It's an entertaining movie if you enjoy disaster movies or the one-man-alone-against-the-odds type movies, or Dwayne Johnson.

Ocean's 8
Another entertaining movie with the same feels as the other (recent) Ocean's movies, with the obvious difference in that the majority of the cast is female. And there's a small twist towards the end which I wasn't expecting.

Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again!
I really enjoyed the first movie, with all the Abba songs woven neatly into the storyline, and this movie is just as enjoyable using a bunch of other Abba songs we didn't hear in the first movie. And Pierce Brosnan only sings one number, and it's a softly sung/spoken-type piece, and very short, and is certainly better than his efforts in the original movie.

The movie tells two stories simultaneously - the first is around the Hotel's re-opening celebrations after extensive renovations and Sophie realising she is the same age as Donna was (her mother) when Donna first arrived on Kalokairi and opened the hotel. The second storyline, set in 1979, follows Donna as she graduates from University and decides to go travelling, how she met up with Harry, Bill and Sam, and how she ended up on the island.

If you liked the first movie, you'll really enjoy this one too.

:p

Very happy to hear Pierce Brosnan does not sing much :) That was painful to watch in the first film (as was his James Bond performances). Will probably see it over the weekend with friends. Listening to the soundtrack now and I really like it. They picked some nice, more obscure songs from ABBA.
