Cool series, although I've never understood the gripe about Hammond and the Mr DNA video. Surely they just have a different film for every tour guide, and Hammond's was made for VIP trips like the one in the film.

Okay film fans, who has been following the drama of James Gunn being sacked from Guardians 3? Does anyone agree with me that Disney are talking out of their backsides by over-reacting to Tweets made many years before he worked for the company? Yeah, the things he said were not in line with Disney's family friendly image BUT he wasn't working for them then, he was an edgy comedian and indie director, surely he should be allowed redemption!

Anyone else have any thoughts? Am I being too passionate? Someone tell me I'm not alone in worrying GOTG3 is going to be sh*t without him, please?

I think this may be our first disagreement @Batto :p but I thoroughly enjoyed number 2. Granted it had some gaping flaws and plot holes, and it wasn't as good as the first one but it was a very entertaining film.

And also, now he's sacked the three film arc he had for the characters will no doubt be changed completely as they probably won't want to credit him as a writer.

The 2nd movie was fine, although I found it a tad forgettable. For example, I cannot for the life of me remember who the antagonist was. I'll admit that it was funny, almost as funny as the 1st one.

It's because there were too many antagonists; The Ravagers, Ayesha, Ego, and at one point Nebula. It made Spider-Man 3 look tame and that film squeezed far too much in! ;)
 
Disney should be embarrassed of themselves with how they've treated Gunn here. Gunn's comments were very inappropriate and off-color, but they were made 10 years ago publicly and he came out on his own years ago to address and apologize for them. Disney knew that, and they also knew of the comments when they hired him. It bothers me that a company the size of Disney is so reactionary that they'll sever all ties with someone who's helped them make billions of dollars (Gunn had a hand in the making of IW and was a creative head at Marvel so his reach extends far beyond the GOTG films) simply because people gave them flack without having the facts after they remembered some admittedly awful things he said a decade later for which he's since apologized for, never harmed anyone with, and they knew about from the beginning.

Not to mention this has caused quite the uproar within Marvel Studios as well with the heads there also not being happy with their parent company and with the actors of the GOTG films publicly opposing Disney's decision and at least one actor (Drax) has threatened to break his contract and walk out.

That pretty much sums up my impression of GOTG2. And besides the aforementioned plot holes, I disliked the poor portrayal of several characters. Among others, Drax (whose actor's name is Dave Bautista, btw.) was turned into an oversexual bully. Anyway, it wouldn't surprise me that this was only the first major "cleansing" acts. After all, this is Disney, a company not known to be very liberal and easy-going when it comes to rules and outer appearance. Or as phrased by the correlated ERB episode: "Hop into my Steamboat, boys, but don't rock it!".

I completely agree that this was a bad decision. I wonder if there was something going on between Gunn and Disney management, and the company just used these uncovered tweets as an excuse to fire him.

I have a feeling that part of it might have been that they didn't want any negative publicity potentially affecting the Fox acquisition. And again, these tweets were not "uncovered", they've been public since they day he made them as have been his apologies and reform. I looked into it and it turns out they were brought back into the spotlight by a political extremist who got into a political debate with Gunn and was attempting to win by using the classic strategy of discrediting your opponent's argument by discrediting your opponent.

NOTE: I just wanted to make it crystal clear as I know I've been very "screw Disney" in my responses here, I definitely do not think Gunn's comments were OK or even remotely funny. I think he should have gotten flack over them but I also think he's moved on from them and seeing as they never actually hurt anyone (or even offended anyone when they were made a decade ago) and he clearly doesn't think that way anymore, it's ridiculous to me that Disney would mess up his career over something they were well aware of and had no problems with back when they hired him. I understand that Disney is a company and it is not their job to make any sort of political or social stands, they're only responsible to preserving the brand's name and keeping business going, but it'd be nice if there was some sort of backing for one of their most valuable employees instead of turning their backs on him and discrediting him the moment someone gets upset...

That's pretty much bang on the money, the guy who "exposed" these very public tweets was an avid Trump supporter who had disagreed with Gunn. Suddenly these 08-10 tweets became newsworthy...?

I understand Disney not wanting to tarnish their reputation but see my post above for the true extent of my indignation! :p
