Movie review rant 2019

I don't want to go into details cause I know people are still touchy about spoilers, but Endgame was insane! So much cheering and crying in the theater! (and the crying wasn't from babies!)

I was house-sitting over Easter weekend, so all I did was watch movies on Netflix and plan trips.

I missed this when you originally posted it because you buried it under loads of movie reviews, but come on, spill some beans Chli. This isn't the first teaser for a trip that you've dropped recently, so give us a hint! :p

August is getting close as well so I'm guessing something is imminent... ;)

No, it isn't imminent unfortunately.

So, spoilers in this video so nobody watch it if you haven't seen the movie yet, but ... it sounds dumb.

Yeah this video definitely dumbs the movie waaaay down but that's sort of the point of the series I suppose. I will say Endgame definitely sacrifices the plot here and there for some fan service moments but it's not as bad or noticeable (unless you're looking for them) as the video makes it sound. Also some of the moments mentioned in that video are not as significant as it makes it sound. In fact there are a couple scenes mentioned where he talks about them longer than they actually last for.

It's definitely not a perfect movie and I haven't decided whether it's "objectively" better than Endgame or some of the others yet, but I think it's pretty much the perfect way to wrap up this saga* and even if it's not the best MCU film, it's definitely the most enjoyable to watch. I'm seeing it for the second time later today and may have some more in-depth thoughts about it then. TBH I think I have more to say about last night's episode of Game of Thrones, though :p

On another note, Endgame has completely obliterated the box office records. The previous record for an opening weekend was $257million set by Infinity War, but Endgame decimated that with a $350million weekend. It also managed to already make $1.2billion worldwide in its first week as well, putting it at the 17th highest grossing film of all time right out of the gate, which is just... just... wow! I don't think a movie has made that much money so fast before. I really didn't think Endgame could beat Avatar's record for the highest grossing movie of all time but after this massive opening I really don't know.

*even though there's still a Spider-Man movie left in Phase 3..

Endgame features Fortnite.

Note that I haven't seen it yet, I just had a friend who has seen it tell me that.

But yeah, it does. It's very, very brief, though, and also hilarious the way it's used. I'm sure the reference will date as well as "what are those" from Black Panther.

It was a funny scene, but are we really just going to accept the fact that people are still playing fortnite on a PS4?

After half of all life got wiped I'm surprised they've got Wi-Fi, I'm not expecting major technical advancements... ;)

But back to Endgame, here are some spoilers without context (i.e. if you haven't seen the movie you won't get them but if you have you'll likely find them funny)

I finally dare to open this thread again after watching Endgame yesterday night, and it was absolutely fantastic!

Glad to see we both agree, this film is so much movie it can't be measured on a scale of one to ten. :p

Makes me think of a line in the Honest Trailer for Infinity War, which would be the perfect way to describe Endgame too: "there's just so much movie in this movie! Look at all that movie!"
