Movie review rant 2019

I just saw Dumbo (2019). I'm not usually a big Tim Burton fan but I enjoyed this film. I think it was handled pretty well. The adult elephants and other animals looked pretty realistic although Dumbo's CGI was a bit meh. Overall I think I liked the story more than the original's. Also, Danny DeVito was perfect for ringleader. I'm bad at scoring movies but I give a 7 or 8 out of 10. If you have kids I recommend taking them to see it. My only complaint is that I had to sit through the Dora trailer again before the movie.

I just got around to watching the Joker trailer. It's so weird - they appear to be intending you to feel sorry for the poor wee fellow. So from now on Batman is going to just be a bully beating up a mentally-fragile abuse victim.

Apparently this is supposed to be a completely standalone story with no sequels or connection to future DC films. Both Thomas and kid Bruce Wayne are in this trailer, however. That means from now on Batman is not going to just be a bully beating up a mentally-fragile abuse victim, he is going to just be a bully beating up an elderly man mentally-fragile abuse victim.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
I went to watch this not expecting to be good. I was right. The decision to make it a musical was weird, there were several plot twists that they should not have twisted, and really the only funny line was the last in the entire movie.

Score: 4/10

I politely disagree, I thought there were some brilliant jokes, the songs weren't awful (Gotham City Guys is a work of genius! :D), and some amazing voice talent! Yeah, I was really dubious about the musical aspect as well but found it worked out okay in the final product. I will admit it wasn't as good as the first two Lego movies but was infinitely better than Ninjago.

I haven't seen Ninjago but I know its (not good) reputation.

I agree the songs (with one exception) were good, but I think the decision to make it a musical was weird.

Remember when a new Star Wars film was an amazing thing? Well, the young people won't but for the old people. Now when there's a trailer for a new one the reaction is a resounding yawn.

Also, running like that with a lightsaber?! You'd lose your own legs in about three seconds.

Forget about that, how is Kylo lifting a guy into the air and knocking him down with a lightsaber. Did they forget that these aren't swords? Then of course we need to have chunks of the Death Star back on a planet that isn't Yavin 4 or Endor and good old Seev again. I think 1:06 is a pretty good visualization of what this franchise has become.

To be fair we don't know it isn't either of those moons; one assumes both of them must have oceans/seas somewhere.

I just looked it up again and you're right, I had thought they'd confirmed somewhere that it was a different planet. It is the wreckage of the second Death Star, though, so it has to be Endor.

I don't understand why people don;t seem to like Star Wars anymore. I really enjoyed The Last Jedi and am exited for the next movie.

I do like them like you, but it's just that perhaps some people might say that they are defeating the point of the first few, and are therefore just desperate money-making films rather than films that set out to make the audience learn something/ see something new. I guess most sequels are just made to make money off the success of the first in the series :p

I completely disagree. Or at least, these movies are less of a cash grab than the Prequel Trilogy!

People just seem to just be really divided on the state of the franchise ever since Disney got a hold of it. I'm not really a die hard Star Wars fan, so I never had much of a stake in the matter.

Perhaps because "The Force Awakens" is an exact replay of "A New Hope" but with a woman replacing the man in the hero role. Nice, but hardly creative. Yawn.

Oh, when I watched that the first time I thought he was holding the lightsaber but sweeping the other guy down with his arm (I did think that was a weird thing to do but I guess my brain told me that was the only thing that made sense). I rewatched it just now and he is indeed using the beam. I guess we have to suppose that the other guy is wearing lightsaber-proof clothing...

I still don't understand the opening sequence of the trailer though. The running away from the speeder only to jump up over it seems pretty dumb.
