Allwetterzoo Münster Munster ZOO

On the 11th of August a male domestic yak was born.

At the end of a Néhoué striped gecko (Dierogekko nehoueensis) hatched, this is most likely a world first breeding for this species. Münster is also the only zoo (in Europe) that keeps this species, currently they are only kept behind the scenes.

At the end of August the zoo announced that the Patagonian maras (Dolichotis patagonum) will be send to the Rauch Zoo. Does anyone know whether they are still in the zoo?

A few weeks ago, the female giant otter Amërie arrived in Münster. She quickly chose one of the two males present as her partner. Amérie and her partner Rio can now be seen together in the Meranti hall. The other male moved to a male group in Zoo Duisburg this week.

Unfortunately one of the Tiger cubs passed away quickly after its birth.
ZooBorns on Instagram: "@allwetterzoo.de Update 29.01. - 14:10: During the morning, our animal keepers observed Raya leaving the birthing box and pacing restlessly back and forth. Eventually, she carried one of the cubs out of the litter box and placed it in the rear enclosure. This behavior - carrying only one cub - often indicates that something is wrong with the remaining cub. Therefore, we decided to take a look into the litter box. Unfortunately, we found that the second cub had passed away. We retrieved the deceased cub. We have set up another litter box for Raya and the remaining tiger cub. Naturally, the loss of the cub is very sad, but not uncommon. It also occurs in nature among first-time mothers. During the night from Friday to Saturday, two tiger cubs were born in the Allwetterzoo. A joyful event that we had hoped for, but did not expect so early. Fedor, our male tiger, and Raya, the new mother, have a breeding recommendation. On Saturday morning, our animal keepers discovered the two tiger cubs. Everything looks good for now, but the first 72 hours after birth are crucial. Now, we keep our fingers crossed. Tiger cats are pregnant for about 110 days and usually give birth to 2-4 cubs. Since we observed the last mating between Frodo and Raya in December, we assumed the earliest possible birth would be early April. The thick winter fur then concealed the rest... Mother Raya moved into a specially prepared litter box with the two cubs on Saturday. We have cordoned off the area around the tiger enclosure extensively to allow the inexperienced mother peace and seclusion. We ask for your understanding that you cannot approach the enclosure directly. Raya is a first-time mother and therefore needs special tranquility. In any case, we are very pleased that Raya and Fedor have successfully mated. Also, the fact that Raya has taken good care of the little tigers in the first hours is a good sign."

On the 8th of June a California sea lion (Zalophus californianus) was born.

Two weeks ago 2 Blue wildebeests (Connochaetes taurinus taurinus) were born.

Recently Northern Vietnamese box turtles (Cuora galbinifrons galbinifrons) hatched in the Internationalen Zentrum für Schildkrötenschutz (IZS) which is based in the zoo. In May the two other species of Cuora that the zoo keeps, also had hatchlings.
