Did Korat Zoo already have pygmy hippo breeding pair on site?

Happy about the breeding loans / animal exchanges with Zoo Negara and Yangon Zoo outside Thailand. It is to be applauded SEAZA new structures are coming up and enabling closer cooperation and hopefully more ex situ conservation breeding programs managed cooperatively under SEAZA wings.

There is now a breeding pair of pygmy hippos This exchange and giving of animals I think it's just with the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand because other zoos in seaza are still not in harmony.

I love how this list of new projects and developments in the Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo) Masterplan 2025 and beyond shows both ambition and a level of zoo management capacity and expertise!

It seems the douc langur expansion that Khao Kheow Open Range Zoo is promoting has resonance among other Thai ZPO member instutitions. For douc langur this is long overdue and I am sure this will have a positive effect on both the IndoChina region and zoos in this region too.

I would hope that at some point some or many of the other native or resident S.E. Asian langur species within the Trachypithecus complex (Germain's, Indochinese black and grey, Laotium and Tenasserim lutungs) as well as the various Presbytis species (white-thighed surili and banded langur ... come to mind) might receive and generate some similar ex situ conservation interest and action among the local Thai zoos as well as the wider SEAZA network in Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia! It is true that many of these taxa and species are similarly threatened and or endangered and would require and reserve more ex situ conservation work with these species.

To quote the eminent Senegalese conservationist Baba Dioum from his emphatic 1968 speeches: ""In the end we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught".
