Nashville Zoo Nashville Zoo News

So I'll be visiting Nashville at the end of the month- I'm hoping to visit the zoo while I'm there. Can someone tell me approximately how long it would take to visit, and what noteworthy exhibits I should see?

First of all, nice to hear from another Arizona member. Due to your sparse number of postings I am not familiar with your name. I would say it takes 3 hours to see everything at the zoo, assuming you are not spending long amounts of time at any exhibit. The clouded leopard exhibit is largely regarded as perhaps the best around, but the zoo is quite good in every aspect. You should have no problem seeing everything.

Not to be missed:
African savanna
Bamboo trails
new Spider Monkeys
Tiger (if the renovation is complete)

Gems-
Meerkat Exhibit (arguably best anywhere around)
Gibbon/Siamang Islands (near entrance and among very best of their kind)
African Savanan (giraffes and red river hogs in amazing habitats)
Spider Monkey Habitat (brand new- opened this week)
Cougar/Baird's Tapirs
Clouded Leopard Habitat
Unseen World (if you like reptiles)

Thanks; I've been here awhile, but haven't had the opportunity to visit too many zoos. I'll be staying in Antioch- about how far is it to the zoo from there?

I am thrilled to announce that I have accepted a position with the Nashville Zoo!! In about a month, I'll be working with hoofstock for a few months, and am really excited to be a part of this ever-growing establishment!

I also was able to get down to the city to check out the zoo today, and was not disappointed! Unfortunately I do not have time to write a review; however, I did take a few photos (including the stellar new spider monkey exhibit), and may post some opinions along with those.

Underwater viewing for Andean (spectacled) bears is an interesting feature. When I first read that I wondered if they would ever go in water. But then I remembered the spectacled bears at my local zoo in Arizona often go in the water in the summer.

Throw in a frozen watermelon and you’re all sorted!
