Nashville Zoo Nashville Zoo News

I never quite gave Nashville much of my attention, but after reading about this new exhibit and going through the gallery, I think I can add it to my list of new zoos to visit in the Summer. It truly looks like a brilliant little zoo. And I asked it a year ago and haven't got an answer yet, so what is the deal with the elephants?

Underwater viewing for Andean (spectacled) bears is an interesting feature. When I first read that I wondered if they would ever go in water. But then I remembered the spectacled bears at my local zoo in Arizona often go in the water in the summer.

If I recall correctly, Saint Louis have underwater viewing for their newish Andean bear exhibit in River's Edge.

The zoo posted a few pix of the new Andean bear exhibit to their facebook page

Looks really nice! The rockwork appears to be better than usual and I like the big tree stump thingy. Someone could probably verify this, but from the photo of the exhibit it appears that the trees are not hotwired which is interesting.

I hope that is on purpose as Andean bears love to climb trees. The two males definitely did their fair share of it during their time in D.C. It will be wonderful to see a youthful, lively trio!

Should be an interesting moment when you take pictures in the men's room at the Entry Village :D
....and like I said I would, just got done filming it;) It will be the first thing people see on my video tour.

I won't make two posts so here's my breakdown of the zoo as well. This was my first visit, and never before have I appreciated a zoo more for trying to copy an animal's natural habitat. I rank it now as my 6th favorite zoo, between Cincy and Toledo. Expedition Peru is just a small plaza but it's very well constructed and overall planted. You'll see it later in the gallery but the new Andean bear exhibit is jaw dropping. It could easily without a doubt be the best of it's kind in the country. Thanks to the weather, I was able to film everything. The Jungle Loop, Bamboo Trail, Unseen New Worlds, Zoo Central, Peru, Savannah Loop, Lorikeets - everything. I highly reccomend this place to be close to the top of everyone's 'must see zoo' list.

What did you think about the other exhibits in Expedition Peru (Pudu, Guinea pig, stingray, cotton top tamarin)?

You'll be able to judge them soon yourself;) They were all perfectly adequate/average, nothing to complain about. There's also a basilisk in the Amazon tank as well. I thought the tamarin exhibit was nice as well until I started to gain blurry vision (hopefully people get the joke:)) I give Expedition Peru an A+.
