San Diego Zoo New "Africa Rocks" complex at San Diego Zoo

Or at least the zoo already has zebras (albeit in a weird place thematically up by the polar bears), and not a penguin exhibit, so penguins will be a big deal.

You do know the penguins do already have an exhibit right? Also Are the plans for ibex to live with the geldas, and warthogs to live with hamandryas Baboons stil on?

Also it does not look like the Lemurs and fossa have been cut. There also plans for a African eagle, spotted hyena, Klipspringers, and rock hyrax as well right?

What makes you say that? Not saying you're wrong, I know nothing about this project. I'm just curious.

The website states 'Rock hyrax, and klipspringers, baboons, Leopards, vervet monkeys, sun birds, several species of lemur and African penguins. It Also shows a picture of a zebra.

Well how trustworthy is the site? Just because the site says one thing doesn't mean it's true.

There have supposedly been African penguins on temporary display in the former otter exhibit in the children's zoo. I have been to the zoo several times since that has happened and they have never been on exhibit.

In any case their new exhibit looks like it will be spectacular and as reduakari observed, likely the highlight of the new exhibit complex.

I, for one, trust Otter Lord more than the website. His info is probably legit.

I saw them when I visited almost a year ago, perhaps you've just been unlucky.

@pachyderm pro:
The kopje exhibit with klipspringer and rock hyrax is already open. It has been open for several months already after a brief closure for renovation. There are exhibits for dwarf mongoose, meerkat, and serval, as well as an aviary.

Has the kopje changed at all since its closure or is it essentially the same with maybe one or two minor changes? I still think it's a bit odd that was included in the Africa Rocks project at all. Unless they significantly changed it it just seems like they wanted to bulk up the species list.

I have no clue. It was closed during my visit, so I never saw it.

I mispoke earlier. Vervet are still in. Zebras were one of the first animals cut, probably about a year ago. The amount of animals before were pretty ambitious so the cuts have enabled larger animal spaces and more interpretive garden spaces. Most of my info is from AZA which was held here last month. I think I can post an updated plan on the gallery...

The current species list includes
African penguins
African sharks
Dwarf Crocodile
Lemurs (As I have predicted they have not been cut)
Vervet Monkey
Fossa
African leopard (Most likely just a Amur leopard)
Geldas
hamadryas baboon
African eagle
Bird aviary
It also looks like there may be another animal with the hamadryas baboons.

I have noticed there is no mention of The honey badgers (One of my favorite animals) on the plan either.

Doesn't it say "Ratels" on the map that Otterlord posted. Next to the fossa's in "Madagascar Forest"?

They was on display during my July visit. I've uploaded a photo of one to the SDZ Gallery.
