ZSL Whipsnade Zoo New Animals for Easter!

Wolverine and Moose returning? Rejoice! :D I knew they were making a new brown bear enclosure, but didn't expect it including all of that!
 
This is very exciting news. Does anyone know where about's this area would be on site as if it is to be ready for April surely it must have already started? I've not been to Whipsnade for a while so I do not know.
 
As the exhibit includes the Bears, European Bison, wolves and Reindeer I would guess it covers everything from the bear exhibit, through the woods with the wallabies and storks and up the wolf wood and reindeer.There's plenty of space in that area - behind the wallaby paddock, in the woods on the downs, opposite the Wolf Wood and the old Musk Ox paddock behind the bison.

A very interesting (and exciting!) development.
 
We went on Sunday and they have only just started work. It is where the old cheetah enclosure was up to the bears! (well thats whats fenced off at the moment)

Very interesting, wolverine may be the new 'in' species with cotswolds, edinbrugh and (soon) whipsnade all aquiring these fascinating animals.

Didn't this start because of the tie-in with a recent film? I think Cotswold alluded to that in their publicity.

I am not sure that Whipsnade have ever had Wolverines before. I certainly welcome the return of Moose at Whipsnade.(European or North American?)
 
hey everyone im back.

was there yesterday, must admit i am very excited about seeing moose at whipsnade!

I didnt know they were making a new bear enclosure, is that true?
 
So the works all pretty much on the right hand side of the entrance by the brown bear enclosure? I will most definitely be paying a visit in easter now. I wonder where all these new species are coming from and how many animals they will have of each type especially the moose.

I guess the storks don't really contradict the theme. The more I think about this project, the more excited I feel. The impression I have is that mainstream British zoos don't tend to have many European mammals on a large scale and it seems this will be quite unique.

Indeed, it is a sadly neglected field. Nice to see NL take the lead on European wildlife show-casing at Whipsnade. Timely and needy. :D

Certainly, if one flips through our recent threads on European species in European zoos and the reintroduction of native species in UK, one sadly observes a lot of ignorance on what a safe and sound ecosystem with full complement of species really entails.

Zoo exhibits in bigger zoos like these and at HWP and Dartmoor WP will hopefully start rectifying that ... I am not talking the smaller parks, one of which is really way out of any competition (if you are UK you know the thread I mean ...).
