New Orangutan Population Found In Indonesia

Unfortunately that boost is to the most populous species. We need to find remaining pockets of Sumatran Orangs.

And might I just add this is just another case of oops - we missed a couple thousand during the last census (African Elephants, Western Lowland Gorillas, now Orangs - I wonder who's next)!

Actually this is a much rarer subspecies of Borneon Orangutan, the Black Borneon or Pongo pymaeus morio. And more findings could be coming in the near future of the Sumatrans. And hopefully a lot more "oops" are in order when it comes to any rare species in the wild. Isn't that better than oops - there aren't as many as we had originally thought?:)

As a matter of fact, on page 2 of this article it does mention a recent find of several hundred Sumatran Orangs as well!:D

Absolutely. I thought that was very positive news.
