New York Aquarium New York Aquarium News

Is anyone planning on going to the aquarium soon? I’d love to see some photos of the newly opened exhibit. It seems like there isn’t that much information about it on the aquarium website.
Basically it's the underwater viewing areas of the Sea Cliffs habitats.

On June 18th, the aquarium announced they have moved their Atlantic sturgeons from the Canyon's Edge exhibit to a brand new exhibit between the PlayQuarium and the Aquatheater.

New York Aquarium - Sturgeon Transfer | Facebook | By New York Aquarium | The New York Aquarium’s Atlantic sturgeon were recently relocated from Canyon’s Edge to their new exhibit. It’s no small feat to move these fish that can...

Why? That's literally just the old beluga exhibit...

They were, but they've decided to showcase them in their own standalone tank now, a tank that would otherwise be left empty.

There was no reason to move them, though? Maybe they should finally destroy that terrible tank and replace it with an actual, functioning exhibit.

It's very frustrating to find accurate species information for this place and it seems like a few members go somewhat frequently, so I'm asking here. A review from 2018 mentioned the following shark species:

Sand Tiger
Blacktip Reef
Zebra
Sandbar
Nurse
Smooth Dogfish
Epaulette
White-Spotted Bamboo
Brown-Banded Bamboo
Whitetip Reef Shark

Is this still correct? I know a lot of time has passed.

Add gray reef shark, horn shark, and spotted (?) wobbegong and this list is accurate

How certain are you? The aquarium got back to me and said they had five species, Sand Tiger Shark, Sandbar Shark, Nurse Shark, Zebra Shark & the Blacktip Reef Shark, but that seemed oddly small so I’m kind of skeptical. If you have a recent visit to back up the extra species I’d take that as evidence.

Smooth houndshark should still be there ( a trio came from Mystic Aquarium), as well as horn shark and wobbegongs that are supposed to be spotted but have a different pattern (hybrids? variants?).

I visited in November of 2023

I visited on Saturday, and they had an animal signed as a Gray Bamboo Shark (Chiloscyllium griseum), but I didn't see any Gray Reef Sharks or Whitetip Reef Sharks.
