I thought this might be interesting, especially to us kiwis on here. I'll make a list of NZ species that I know are in overseas collections and keep it updated as all you foreign lot provide the info. If you know of species I haven't listed let me know; if you know what zoos have them let me know. This is really just for specifically NZ species or subspecies, not ones also found in Australia or elsewhere.
BIRDS:
North Island brown kiwi (Apteryx mantelli):Frankfurt, Antwerp, Walsrode (apparently they now have them?), Berlin, Rotterdam, San Diego, Washington, Los Angeles, Chicago, Osaka
Fiordland crested penguin (Eudyptes pachyrhynchus):Taronga (Sydney)
Paradise shelduck (Tadorna variegata):
Blue duck (Hymenolaimus malacorhynchus):
NZ shoveller (Anas rhynchotis variegata):
Brown teal (Anas chlorotis):
NZ scaup (Aythya novaeseelandiae):
Weka (Gallirallus australis):
Kea (Nestor notabilis):
North Island kaka (Nestor meridionalis septentrionalis): Stuttgart
Red-crowned kakariki (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae):
Yellow-crowned kakariki (Cyanoramphus auriceps):
[I'll note here that the "red-crowneds" and "yellow-crowneds" in UK and Europe and probably everywhere else outside NZ are not pure birds because of constant hybridisation by breeders; you just have hybrid birds that look more like one or the other]
REPTILES:
Common tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus): Taronga (Sydney), Chester, Berlin, Dallas, Toledo, Saint Louis
Brothers Islands tuatara (Sphenodon guntheri): San Diego
North Island green tree gecko (Naultinus elegans):
and any others...
[sadly there are also lots of smuggled NZ reptiles held illegally outside of the country]
ANYTHING ELSE?:
Giant weta (Deinacrida heteracantha?):
