Some time ago I briefly corresponded with the author of the new species and taxonomic revision. He said that there may be more discoveries in the future. For example, the Peruvian arapaimas haven't been looked at closely and at present it isn't clear exactly what species they belong to. He was looking into it but such studies can take years to finish.
This is important to understand the full diversity of arapaimas in the wild, but also to the arapaimas kept in aquariums because they commonly originate from Peruvian aquaculture. So what species have most of us seen in aquariums? Not clear at present but it probably wasn't Arapaima gigas.....
